DJI Mavic Pro II (2) may be delayed until late spring

The latest rumor on the DJI Mavic Pro II (or DJI Mavic Pro 2) is that it may be delayed until late spring, i.e. June. That would be a disappointment for many as the previous launch date of the DJI Mavic Pro II was in three weeks from now (March 22nd). We were expecting the Mavic Pro II to be the first new drone to be released after the Mavic Air introduction. Pushing the launch date back to June opens up the possibility of another DJI product to be launched in March. The Spark 2 maybe?

The DJI Mavic Pro II (2) delayed?

@OsitaLV is keeping busy today. He just tweeted new information yet again. The first bit and if correct the most disappointing part is the possible delay of the foldable drone until June. This would be significantly later than the originally rumored launch date of March 22nd. Furthermore, OsitaLV suggested that the DJI Mavic Pro II will not have a mechanical shutter on the 1 inch CMOS sensor. The current Phantom 4 Pro has both a mechanical and an electronic shutter. The current Mavic Pro only has an electronic shutter. To eliminate the jello-effect or rolling-shutter effect in video footage, you need a global (mechanical or electronic) shutter. This may indicate that the Phantom series will be reserved for the photographers/videographers who require the highest possible quality (short of buying an Inspire), whereas with the Mavic Pro series the focus will remain on portability.

Update: in a later tweet OsitaLV mentioned a variable iris/aperture F2.8-F11 on a prototype of DJI Mavic Pro II (2) and no certain announcement date.

Update 3/3/’18: OsitaLV: It will have an improved vision processing system, faster than Mavic Air. And it will have quiet propellers.

RUMORED SPECS OF THE DJI MAVIC PRO II (2)

  • The official name will be DJI Mavic Pro II instead of Mavic Pro 2
  • It will be substantially larger than the current Mavic Pro
  • 4820 mAh battery capacity and 15.2 V power (compared with 3830 mAh and 11.4 V for the current Mavic Pro).
  • Different battery design than the current Mavic Pro
  • Upgraded propulsion with larger motors (slightly smaller than current Phantom 4)
  • 33-minute flight time. Maybe longer (current Mavic Pro has 27-minute and Platinum 30-minute flight time).
  • It will have ‘quiet’ propellers
  • Top speed is 72 kph (45 mph) in sport mode (2/24)
  • 1″ CMOS sensor (current Mavic Pro has 1/2.3” CMOS sensor) with 28mm lens.
  • No mechanical shutter
  • Variable iris/aperture F2.8-F11
  • Newly designed 3-axis gimbal.
  • Infrared 3D sensing to avoid obstacles even in the dark
  • It will have an improved vision processing system, faster than Mavic Air
  • Binocular rear vision obstacle avoidance sensors.
  • The same design of remote control as old Mavic Pro but drastically improved
  • Will use OcuSync.
  • Video transmission frequency is unknown.
  • Improved agility and precision.
  • Expected to outperform current Phantom 4 Pro.
  • Beta testing of the DJI Mavic Pro II ended late January.
  • Mass production has started already (early Feb) and will not be impacted by Chines New Year.
  • Launch date possibly March 22nd but could be later. Update: launch date likely to be in June
  • The Mavic Pro 2 will be controlled with the DJI GO 4 app just like the current Mavic Pro.
  • Expected price point: $1299 USD or more. The FlyMore combo will be more expensive.

We expect the all-new DJI Mavic Pro II (2) to carry over many of the new technologies that have been introduced with the Mavic Air, such as APAS, 3D sensing and obstacle-avoidance (front, bottom, and rear). It should have the new features such as Astroid, Boomerang and Panorama photos with a push of a button.

A lot of the really early information comes from a single source on Twitter, OsitaLV and eventhough not all his predictions have been correct, he has been very accurate on most of his predictions. So, keep that in mind when you read through this list. We expect more sources to come forward and more leaks to occur as we get closer to the official launch date of the new DJI Mavic Pro II, which now may be in June.
