Spectacular drone footage of a blue whale mother and her calf [video]

Check out this spectacular drone footage of a blue whale mother and her calf. The footage was shot by Domenic Biagini near San Diego on June 26. Reportedly the whales were circling their boat and according to the San Diego Whale Watch, the calf might have been nursing.

More drones, more wildlife videos

As drones have become more and more popular we have seen a sharp increase in all kinds of amazing wildlife drone footage. Most of the footage comes to us through wildlife researchers but often times, we \ receive footage from hobbyist drone pilots, who just happen to be at the right place at the right time.

Other examples are the whale videos of the scientists from Ocean Alliance. They use DJI Inspires to collect whale snot for research. To collect the snot, they simply fly the drone through the spray from the whale when it exhales. This way they collect the mucus-like substance that’s exhaled out of the blowholes on the tops of whales’ heads. The snot provides a lot of information on the whale’s health and diet.

In this particular video that was shot of the coast of San Diego, you can see the calf coming up for air right next to its mother. A pretty spectacular sight as you can see in the video below.
