DJI Mavic 2 Pro / Zoom drone shows its underbelly

Today, we get our first good look at what seems to be the underbelly of the soon to be released DJI Mavic 2 Pro / Zoom drone. The photo that surfaced on Twitter shows the bottom plate with various openings for screws, ultrasonic sensors, downward dual-vision sensors, a downward infrared sensing system to allow for better positioning when flying (and landing) in general and especially indoors. The new foldable DJI drone is expected to perform significantly better in terms of obstacle avoidance than both its predecessor the Mavic Pro and the latest DJI drone the Mavic Air.

Omnidirectional obstacle sensing

The photo surfaced on Twitter earlier this morning was posted by @OsitaLV and shows what seems to be the bottom shell of the body of the DJI Mavic 2 Pro / Zoom drone. When compared to the image of the DJI Mavic 2 Enterprise Edition, you will see that the openings match up.

In the photo, you can see six openings to screws the plate to the body of the drone. There are also two little covers missing towards the front of the drone as well as the two back legs/feet that are absent in the photo. In the middle of the plate, there are various openings seemingly for an ultrasonic sensor, a downward infrared sensing system, downward dual-vision sensors and another ultrasonic sensor.

DJI’s new drone is expected to be more capable than both its predecessor, the Mavic Pro and the company’s latest drone the Mavic Air when it comes to obstacle avoidance and indoor flying. In the DJI ad that showed up the Argos catalog, the drone maker stated that the Mavic 2 Pro / Zoom will have:

“Omnidirectional obstacle sensing with APAS and Active Track 2.0 give you the confidence to take to the sky and capture your moment.”

This Thursday, DJI will finally have their ‘See the Bigger Picture’ event and we will learn about all the capabilities of this new drone and hopefully we will be able to get our hands on one and test out the drone’s omnidirectional obstacle sensing system. So, stay tuned!
