Who is the DJI Mavic 2 Enterprise for? That is a good question. With a zoom camera, secure onboard data storage and cold weather ability, the DJI Mavic 2 Enterprise offers clear advantages to inspection and insurance companies. However, when you look at the drone’s accessories, such as the loudspeaker, dual floodlights and LED beacon, DJI obviously targets first responders, lifeguards, search-and-rescue, emergency personnel, firefighters and local law enforcement officials. For almost two thousand dollars they get a heck of drone to help them in their work. The DJI Mavic 2 Enterprise is the first affordable search-and-rescue drone.
The affordable search-and-rescue drone
It is not hard to imagine that a small, foldable and very capable drone that can be outfitted with a loudspeaker or dual floodlight would be very beneficial during rescue operations. Even during inclement weather or nighttime operations, the DJI Mavic 2 enterprise can be used far more safely with the LED beacon that can be mounted on top. DJI’s AirSense allows emergency crews to even use the drone safely in situations where there are other manned aircraft in the vicinity. For instance, during wildfires, as we have seen in California recently.
We have reported many stories of first responders, emergency personnel, firefighters and local law enforcement officials using drones to help them in their work and save people’s lives. What surprised me, however, is that oftentimes you would read that the drones, the additional equipment and Part 107 training that is required for the drone pilots, add up to quite an expensive package. Think, tens of thousands of dollars. Now, some of those expenses will remain, such as the training of drone pilots, but I would hope that with the introduction of the DJI Mavic 2 Enterprise more rescue crews, police and fire departments will be able to start using drones to save people’s lives.

The one main missing feature, however, seems to be a thermal camera. Such a camera would turn the DJI Mavic 2 Enterprise into a mini DJI Matrice / Zenmuse XT2 setup. When will we get to see one of those?
