FAA UAS Symposium postponed. New date unsure.

It didn’t really come as a surprise, but it is very unfortunate nonetheless. As a result of the government shutdown the FAA UAS Symposium that was supposed to take place at the Baltimore Convention Center from February 12-14, 2019 has now been officially postponed. In an email from AUVSI, we were informed that the convention has officially been postponed due to the government shutdown and that ” new conference dates will be announced after furloughed FAA employees return to work.”

FAA UAS Symposium postponed

The FAA UAS Symposium that was scheduled to take place at the Baltimore Convention Center from February 12-14, 2019 has been officially postponed. In an email to the media, AUVSI informs us that:

“AUVSI is reaching out to let you know the FAA UAS Symposium 2019 scheduled to take place in February is being postponed due to the government shutdown. The new conference dates will be announced after furloughed FAA employees return to work.

Once employees return, we will continue to build an event that will bring stakeholders together from all sectors to help define the rules and concepts that will govern the future of drone operations.

Please watch your inbox for the announcement of the new dates.”

We don’t know when the convention will now take place, but we do know that convention centers that can host a large audience are not easy to come by on short notice. Could it be that they will now team up with another event, like XPONENTIAL 2019 (April 29th-May 2nd)? That might not be a bad idea.

As soon as we find out the new date and location we will let you know here on DroneDJ.

Government shutdown impacts drone community

As you must have noticed, the government shutdown has affected the drone industry in a number of ways now. First off, the keynote that was supposed to be delivered by the U.S. Secretary of Transportation Elaine L. Chao about “The New Mobility Revolution” did not happen at CES® 2019. Earlier this week, an invite-only event from DJI in Washington about DJI technology that helps to protect critical data and enhance flight safety was canceled as well. And the FCC has been affected, which impacts the sales off… More about that later.
