DJI unveils new SDR Transmission system for filmmakers

Drone maker DJI is once again broadening its horizons with the launch of a new video transmission system. DJI is growing its role in the broader film and video production industry with its latest innovation.

The newly unveiled DJI SDR Transmission system offers filmmakers advanced software-defined radio (SDR) technology, making high-quality video transmission more accessible than ever. Designed for small to medium-sized film crews, the system promises enhanced stability and strong resistance to interference. With the ability to deliver 1080p video at 60 frames per second, a bitrate of up to 20Mbps, and minimal delay, it ensures reliable performance even in challenging environments.

DJI’s SDR Transmission system is designed to integrate seamlessly into various filming setups. It supports the simultaneous output of three SDR and two Wi-Fi signals, facilitating smooth collaboration among the crew. In broadcast mode, it connects to unlimited receivers, providing high-quality monitoring for multiple team members. The system is compatible with monitors via SDI/HDMI and smartphones and tablets via USB-C or Wi-Fi, making it a versatile addition to any production.

Beyond video transmission, the DJI SDR system offers advanced remote camera control when paired with DJI RS Series Stabilizers. Filmmakers can adjust camera settings such as aperture and shutter speed through the app, enhancing creative flexibility. The system also supports metadata transmission, streamlining collaboration and providing real-time access to detailed shooting information.

True to DJI’s reputation for innovation, the SDR Transmission system is compact and lightweight, weighing only 145 grams (5.1 ounces) per unit. Its foldable antenna makes it easy to transport, ideal for dynamic filming environments.

“Since the beginning, we intended our DJI PRO line to be a comprehensive and reliable ecosystem of drones, cameras, and creator tools for both professional filmmakers in the industry and content creators to aspiring storytellers,” says Paul Pan, senior product line manager at DJI. “Listening closely to user feedback, we continue to expand our offerings in creative camera technologies with careful attention to what’s needed. Our new DJI SDR Transmission delivers the same film and television-level image transmission quality but at a more accessible price point for more upcoming filmmakers.”
