The highly anticipated DJI Air 3S drone appears to be on the verge of release, with some exciting updates revealed through recent leaks.
In a series of leaks shared by prominent sources, including Igor Bogdanov and Jasper Ellens, some of the specs for the DJI Air 3S are now known. Compared to its predecessor (now available at a 20% discount), the Air 3S could bring significant upgrades in image quality and flight technology. It likely boasts a 1-inch CMOS sensor for the wide-angle camera and a 1/1.3-inch sensor for the medium tele camera, which will deliver stunning 50MP and 48MP images, respectively. Its ISO range also appears to have been upgraded, offering a maximum of 12,800 for enhanced low-light performance, nearly double that of the Air 3.
The Air 3S could also introduce an impressive array of features that drone pilots will surely appreciate. Dual-camera capabilities, with a possible 24mm wide-angle lens and a 70mm medium telephoto lens, could enable more versatile shooting options. This flexibility, combined with 4K/120fps slow-motion recording and a dynamic range of 14 stops, could make the Air 3S an exciting choice for videographers. Additionally, the drone is expected to record in D-Log M and HLG formats, making it perfect for professional color grading.
One major feature detailed in the latest leak is the introduction of LiDAR technology on the front, which promises to enhance obstacle sensing, particularly in low-light conditions. The system is expected to significantly improve safety and reliability during nighttime flights or in challenging environments. Another game-changing feature is the rumored DJI RC Track, a tracking beacon that could allow users to control the Air 3S without a traditional remote. This innovation, if true, would allow the drone to autonomously follow the user, simplifying flight operations for content creators on the go.
Compared to the Air 3, the Air 3S appears to be slightly lighter, weighing in at just 724 grams, and offers a maximum flight time of 45 minutes. Its internal storage has also been bumped up to 42 GB, allowing for more onboard video recording, while a maximum horizontal speed of 27 m/s ensures fast-paced capture.
The drone would also include popular intelligent flight modes such as QuickShots, MasterShots, FocusTrack, and Hyperlapse, alongside the next-generation Return-To-Home (RTH) system, which improves the safety of the drone’s return journey. Built-in APAS 5.0 is expected to enhance obstacle avoidance capabilities, adding another layer of operational security.
With the rumored launch date set for October 23, excitement is building around the Air 3S. While official details from DJI are still forthcoming, these leaks have certainly set the stage for what could be the brand’s most feature-rich drone yet.
