DJI’s new Mic Mini: Big sound in a small package

Tech giant DJI, renowned globally for its innovative drone and camera technology, has unveiled the new Mic Mini. This ultralight, compact, wireless microphone is designed to offer high-quality audio at an entry-level price point, making premium audio capture more accessible than ever.

DJI Mic Mini: Lightweight, versatile, and feature-rich

Weighing just 10 grams — less than half the weight of its predecessor, the DJI Mic 2 — Mic Mini is designed with comfort and ease of use in mind. It offers multiple wearing options, including a clip, magnetic attachment, or lanyard, ensuring it stays discreet and doesn’t interfere with on-camera appearances.

Despite its compact size, the Mic Mini delivers exceptional audio quality. Its omnidirectional recording ensures sound is captured from all angles, while two-level noise cancellation provides flexibility for different environments. The basic setting reduces subtle indoor noises like fans and air conditioning, while the strong mode suppresses ambient noise in bustling outdoor settings, ensuring vocal clarity. Additionally, windscreen attachments minimize interference during outdoor shoots.

Content creators will appreciate the DJI Mic Mini’s automatic limiting feature, which prevents audio clipping, and its adjustable gain dial, offering five levels to fine-tune sound input. These features make it an ideal choice for scenarios ranging from podcasts to outdoor vlogs.

The included all-in-one charging case adds to the device’s convenience. It neatly stores the transmitters, receiver, windscreens, and adapters while providing up to 48 hours of extended operation. A quick five-minute charge powers the microphone for one hour, catering to creators on tight schedules.

High-quality audio transmission

With a robust transmission range of up to 400 meters and anti-interference capabilities, the DJI Mic Mini ensures stable and rich audio quality even in crowded environments. Its dual-channel recording functionality allows users to separate or combine audio from two transmitters, providing creative flexibility. The DJI Mimo app further enhances usability with features like safety tracks that record at a lower volume to prevent loss due to distortion.

The Mic Mini is a perfect addition to DJI’s OsmoAudio ecosystem. It connects effortlessly with DJI products like the Osmo Action 5 Pro, Osmo Action 4, and Osmo Pocket 3. It also integrates with the DJI Fly app, allowing creators to sync audio with footage from drones like the DJI Neo and eliminate propeller noise in post-production.

That said, the Mic Mini’s versatility extends beyond DJI devices. It connects directly to smartphones via Bluetooth, eliminating the need for additional receivers, and is compatible with cameras, tablets, and computers. The device’s ability to charge from a smartphone or simultaneously power both devices enhances its appeal for on-the-go creators.

Affordable and available now

For vloggers, podcasters, and YouTubers seeking a high-quality yet budget-friendly audio solution, the DJI Mic Mini stands out in a crowded market. The product comes in two configurations to suit different needs. The full kit, priced at $169, includes two transmitters, a receiver, a charging case, and various accessories. A more basic version, featuring one transmitter and receiver, is available for $89. Both configurations are now available for purchase now, unlike the new DJI Air 3S or FPV Goggles N3 that have been officially unveiled but are yet to hit the shelves in the US.
