UK-based Moonrock Drone Insurance has introduced a new drone insurance product tailored for hobbyists and recreational pilots. Backed by the reputable Hiscox insurance group, the offering promises comprehensive protection for drone enthusiasts.
The policy provides coverage for a wide range of incidents, including accidents, fly-aways, theft, and physical damage. Drone equipment valued up to £15,000 is covered, along with public liability insurance of up to £1,000,000. Pilots can enjoy peace of mind knowing their drones are protected whether they’re flying indoors, outdoors, or traveling worldwide, including the US and Canada.
Key features of Moonrock’s hobbyist drone insurance include:
- Coverage for physical loss and accidental damage
- Protection against fly-aways and theft (in storage, transit, or flight)
- Worldwide coverage
- Indoor flight coverage
Claims will be handled directly by Hiscox’s dedicated team, ensuring a smooth and straightforward process for policyholders. Simon Ritterband, founder and managing director of Moonrock, emphasizes the ease and affordability of the new product. “After two years of development, we’ve crafted a user-friendly policy that gives drone enthusiasts the protection and peace of mind they need,” he says.
With over 600,000 drone operators in the UK, many of whom fly for fun, Moonrock’s new offering addresses a significant gap in the market. “Drones can be expensive to replace, with advanced models costing thousands of pounds. Pilots also face risks of damaging property or injuring others, so it pays to be protected,” Ritterband adds.
Purchasing coverage is straightforward via Moonrock’s recently updated website. Hobbyists can select their desired policy, answer a few questions, and secure their insurance within minutes. The revamped site also serves as a hub for information on Moonrock’s other products and drone regulations.
