Tech giant DJI has released a teaser for its upcoming drone, the DJI Flip. The teaser image, featuring downward-folding propeller guards and the tagline “Open New Possibilities,” reveals that the official release of the new DJI drone is scheduled for January 14 at 8 a.m. EST. However, there’s quite a bit that we know already from rumors and leaks.
Departing from DJI’s conventional side-folding mechanisms, the Flip introduces downward-folding propellers, enhancing portability and ease of storage. This innovative design, combined with integrated propeller guards, prioritizes safety, making it an excellent choice for beginners and indoor flight enthusiasts. Leaked images suggest a lightweight construction, with the drone weighing under 250 grams, potentially exempting it from certain regulatory requirements and appealing to a broader user base.

At the core of the Flip’s appeal is its robust imaging system. Rumors point to a 48MP camera equipped with a 1/1.3-inch sensor, capable of capturing 4K video at up to 100 fps, similar to the DJI Mini 4 Pro. The camera is expected to support multiple photo formats, including DNG, JPEG, and RAW, and offer an 82.1° field of view with 4x digital zoom. These features position the Flip as a formidable tool for content creators seeking high-quality aerial footage
The Flip is anticipated to deliver impressive flight performance, boasting a maximum flight time of approximately 31 minutes, powered by a 3,110mAh battery. Its LiDAR-based obstacle avoidance system, similar to that found in DJI’s higher-end models, promises enhanced navigation and collision prevention. Additionally, the inclusion of DJI’s OcuSync 4.0 (O4) video transmission system is expected to ensure a stable and reliable live feed during flight.
Designed with beginners in mind, the Flip is rumored to include several user-friendly features:
- Hands-free QuickShots: Modes such as Dronie, Rocket, Circle, Helix, Boomerang, and Spotlight are expected to make capturing cinematic shots effortless, catering to social media creators and vloggers.
- Integrated propeller guards: Enhancing safety during flight, especially in indoor environments or crowded spaces.
- Low noise levels: Ensuring quieter operation, making it less intrusive in public or residential areas.
DJI Flip drone: Pricing and configurations
While official pricing has yet to be confirmed, leaks suggest the following configurations:
- Base drone unit: Approximately $449
- RC 2 controller bundle: Around $659
- Fly More Combo: Estimated at $799
This pricing strategy positions the Flip competitively within the consumer drone market and also bridges the gap between the ultra-affordable DJI Neo and the more advanced DJI Mini series drones.
All in all, DJI Flip’s innovative design, combined with advanced features and competitive pricing surely makes it a drone that opens new possibilities in aerial photography and recreational flying.
