How to keep DJI Osmo 360 camera lenses scratch-free

The DJI Osmo 360 has quickly become one of the most talked-about cameras of the year, thanks to its compact design and powerful dual fisheye lenses that capture the world in native 8K 360° video. But while those lenses are the star of the show, they’re also the part that demands the most care.

Unlike traditional cameras with recessed lenses, the Osmo 360’s design leaves its twin fisheyes protruding from the body. That’s how it delivers such immersive spherical footage and 120-megapixel stills, but it also means they’re more exposed to scratches, smudges, and impact damage. Even the tiniest flaw on one lens can affect the entire stitched panorama, leaving creators with distracting marks in their footage.

This is why owners need to be mindful of how vulnerable these lenses are. The most common hazards include accidental drops — where the fisheyes often hit the ground first — dust and sand outdoors, contact with other gear in a packed camera bag, and even simple fingerprints from grabbing the camera the wrong way.

DJI has strengthened the lenses with multi-layer coatings and hardening treatments, giving them resistance to everyday wear. Still, they remain high-precision optics that need careful handling.

Simple steps for better Osmo 360 lens protection

The good news? Keeping your Osmo 360 safe doesn’t require much effort. DJI recommends:

  • Use the Rubber Lens Protector or pouch whenever storing the camera. Always check these accessories for sand or grit before snapping them onto the lens.
  • Clean lenses before filming, removing fingerprints, oils, or dust with a microfiber cloth. Even small smudges can ruin image quality
  • Invest in Transparent Lens Protectors for shoots in rugged environments or when bumps are more likely. Ensure surfaces are dust-free before mounting to prevent scratching. Official DJI lens protectors are not yet available in the US, but there are numerous third-party options to choose from.
  • Hold the camera by its body, never the lenses, to avoid accidental smudges or slips.

Affordable repairs if things go wrong

For added peace of mind, DJI offers a flat-rate lens replacement program. Scratched or broken lenses can be swapped for $25 each or $41 for both. Users simply submit a repair request online, and DJI will handle the fix — even evaluating internal damage from accidental drops.

Bottom line: The Osmo 360 is built for creativity, from action-packed adventures to cinematic storytelling, but its greatest strength — those incredible fisheye lenses — requires a little extra TLC. With the right protectors, cleaning habits, and DJI’s replacement safety net, owners can keep their 360° footage looking sharp for years to come.
