DJI Matrice 4 drones add Manifold 3, LiDAR obstacle sensing module support

DJI has rolled out a significant firmware update for its enterprise-grade Dock 3 and Matrice 4 series drones. Dock 3 firmware v14.03.00.03 and aircraft firmware v14.03.00.03 bring sharper intelligence, enhanced safety, and greater operational flexibility for US professionals across public safety, infrastructure inspection, surveying, and other applications.

Key highlights of the new DJI Dock 3, Matrice 4D series firmware update

1. Obstacle Sensing Module support
The most notable enhancement: both the Matrice 4T and 4E now support DJI’s Obstacle Sensing Module — previously available only for the Matrice 4D and 4TD models. This addition significantly improves flight safety in complex environments, especially in low-light or obstacle-dense scenarios like power substations.

2. Manifold 3 compatibility
This new firmware enables integration with DJI’s advanced onboard computer Manifold 3. On the Matrice 4E, Manifold 3 unlocks “Smart 3D Explore,” which delivers real-time spatial mapping and flight-route planning. It generates a rudimentary 3D model mid-flight, transmitted live to the remote controller, allowing operators to design precise mission paths that conform to surrounding structures on the fly.

3. Smarter Patrol Route options
The update now permits Matrice 4 drones to leverage third-party visual recognition algorithms for Patrol Routes, expanding custom smart tasks beyond built-in object detection and enabling more tailored mission automation.

4. Enhanced AR landmark classification
Operators will see improvements to AR-based street-landmark classification, offering more refined, customizable display overlays in DJI Pilot 2 or compatible apps — a boon for navigation assistance in urban or industrial inspections.

5. Infrared image quality improvements
In infrared inspection mode, the update refines image quality, enhancing grayscale rendering and high-temperature contrast ratios. It also brings support for third-party infrared-algorithm integration, which is beneficial for advanced thermal analysis in search-and-rescue, power-line inspection, and facility monitoring.

New: This drone just set a new world record with 3-hour flight
