If you’ve just unboxed DJI’s brand-new Mini 5 Pro, your first stop isn’t the skies — it’s the settings menu. DJI has already rolled out the drone’s very first firmware update, unlocking a set of features we knew were going to be there, but needed this patch to go live.
For those catching up, the Mini 5 Pro is DJI’s latest addition to its hugely popular Mini drone lineup. Building on the success of the Mini 4 Pro, it’s designed for pilots who want pro-level performance in a package that still feels lightweight and portable. It comes with enhanced sensors for obstacle avoidance, improved flight stability, and upgraded imaging tools that cater to everyone from casual flyers to serious content creators.
The debut firmware, v01.00.0300 for the aircraft and corresponding updates for its controllers, is less about adding “brand-new surprises” and more about officially flipping the switch on features DJI had already promised. Think of it as the finishing touch that ensures the Mini 5 Pro is ready to perform as advertised.
One of the headline additions is MasterShots. This automated shooting mode, already a staple on several other DJI drones, strings together camera moves into polished, cinematic sequences. Mini 5 Pro owners expected it from the start, and now it’s officially live after this update.
Also enabled is the 48mm Med-Tele video mode, which lets pilots grab tighter shots without repositioning the drone. It’s a handy tool for variety in your footage, and again, something DJI previewed at launch.
Omnidirectional ActiveTrack also gets a boost with new presets like Standard and Cycling. Whether you’re capturing a ride down a winding path or just following a friend through a city street, tracking should feel smoother and more reliable.
For still shooters, the 50MP photo mode has been tuned to handle low-light scenes more effectively. It’s going to come in handy if you’re out at golden hour or flying after sunset.
Meanwhile, DJI has refined QuickTransfer, boosting both speed and stability. There’s also a shortcut: press the aircraft’s side button to jump directly into transfer mode, making it easier to move files off the drone without digging through menus.
Along with those feature activations, the firmware update includes the standard dose of bug fixes and stability improvements. Nothing flashy here, but these tweaks often matter just as much for a smoother flight experience.
The bottom line: if you’ve managed to snag the Mini 5 Pro, make sure you update the DJI Fly app, aircraft, and the remote controller before your first flight.
