DJI’s enterprise flagship drone has received a serious intelligence upgrade. The company has rolled out a comprehensive firmware update for the Matrice 400 drone, enhancing performance, safety, and mission efficiency, and most notably, adding support for the brand-new Zenmuse L3 LiDAR payload.
The update touches nearly every part of DJI’s enterprise ecosystem, from the aircraft and remote controller to battery systems and accessories like the D-RTK stations. Firmware version 16.00.00.05 for the aircraft brings a host of new capabilities designed to streamline operations for professionals in mapping, surveying, powerline inspection, and public safety.
Among the standout additions is Zenmuse L3 compatibility, opening the door for long-range, high-accuracy LiDAR missions. DJI’s latest payload is being hailed as a major leap in aerial mapping precision, combining next-generation 1535 nm LiDAR technology with dual 100-megapixel cameras to deliver both distance and detail like never before. When paired with the Matrice 400, the L3 can cover up to 100 km² of area per day, while maintaining centimeter-level accuracy, making it a powerhouse for surveyors and geospatial professionals.
But the firmware update isn’t just about new hardware. DJI has also added features that make flying and mission monitoring smoother and safer. Operators can now enjoy side-by-side viewing options like Visible Light + FPV or Point Cloud + FPV, giving them better situational awareness during complex missions. A new navigation display module shows detailed obstacle sensing levels, and the aircraft can now auto-align with the gimbal’s orientation — a small but vital improvement for precision operations.
DJI is also introducing a new Patrol Route feature, allowing users to set automated smart detection and alert paths. It’s tailor-made for industries like utilities and infrastructure, where repeated inspections are common. The update also lets pilots using the Zenmuse H30 series capture photos and videos during Power Line Follow missions with the Zenmuse L2, improving data collection in critical infrastructure inspection.
In another nod to operational efficiency, DJI has enhanced the Boat Launch Mode to now support landing marker detection with the H30 series camera — a significant safety boost for maritime operations.
One of the more underrated but valuable additions is the real-time ticket submission and tracking system for fault feedback. Operators can now submit service tickets directly from the app, track their status, and receive progress updates, reducing downtime and simplifying after-sales communication.
The BS100 Intelligent Battery Station also gets smarter. Pilots can now adjust charging power in Turbo Mode via the DJI Pilot 2 app, optimizing charging speed depending on mission urgency. For larger setups, the update adds Relay Mode, allowing Matrice 4D systems or D-RTK 3 stations to act as relays for the Matrice 400, extending communication and control range in challenging environments.
Together with updates to DJI Pilot 2, FlightHub 2, and the D-RTK 3 Mobile Station, this firmware release reinforces DJI’s goal of creating a seamless, end-to-end ecosystem for professional drone operations. For pilots in the field, that means less manual setup, smoother data flow, and more reliable mission execution — all while expanding what the Matrice 400 drone can do.
