If you thought the DJI Osmo Nano was already a ninja-tiny, let’s-go-anywhere camera, wait till you meet its latest firmware update. Version 01.01.16.50 for the camera, compatible with Mimo app v2.6.0 or higher, brings a fresh batch of improvements that make this little guy even more useful.
First off: playback just got way more flexible. You can now hit play even when the camera isn’t docked — handy if you’re out and about and want to review a clip on the go. And if you’re using the camera separately but linked to a wireless mic via the Multifunctional Vision Dock: there’s live-view support now too. That means you can preview framing — and get your shot lined up — before you hit record.
Then there’s the sweet upgrade to visuals. A new “Natural Wide” Field of View (FOV) option helps reduce the kind of fish-eye distortion you sometimes see with ultra-wide lenses — while still keeping that immersive wide-angle feel. That’s a great balance: you get all the dramatic wide-angle vibe for travel, action, or creative shots, but with more realistic proportions. (For context: FOV is basically how much of the scene the lens captures at once. A wider FOV means a broader view, but it can lead to distortion if not handled carefully.
Also on the plus side: the firmware adds a “HorizonCorrection” option inside the EIS (electronic image stabilization) mode when shooting video. That means if your hand or camera wobbles just a bit — say ±15° — the software will automatically level the horizon. That’s a huge win for handheld footage. EIS, by the way, is the tech that smooths out shaky video via smart digital stabilization rather than heavy mechanical rig.

On the privacy front, there’s now a password lock on the onboard album. If you set it, you’ll need the password to view clips when the camera powers on — solid for anyone capturing personal or behind-the scenes footage. There’s also a “Basic” style for the Always-On Display (AOD) for those who like a minimalist look.
Battery life and power-management get a nod too: the update optimizes power consumption, which should help you eke out longer outings without scrambling for a charger. And yes, a few pesky bugs have been squashed as well.
All told, this firmware makes Osmo Nano feel more polished, more flexible, and more grown-up, without sacrificing the small, wearable, grab-and-go magic that made it special in the first place.
If you’ve been on the fence about picking one up, now’s a great time; you’re getting a camera that’s not only compact and easy to carry, but also smarter and more capable. But while the Osmo Nano itself isn’t on discount right now, DJI’s wider lineup very much is.
