Most people shopping for their first drone fall into one of two camps. They either buy something ultra-cheap and quickly outgrow it, or they spend big on a premium drone and spend every flight terrified of hitting a tree. This DJI drone feels like it was designed specifically for everyone stuck in the middle.
While Prime Day headlines are being dominated by discounts on bigger-name models like the Air 3S and budget favorites like the Neo and Mini 4K, one of DJI’s newest drones is quietly delivering what might be the most compelling deal of the event: the Flip.
The numbers alone are enough to grab attention. The DJI Flip Two Battery Combo has dropped to $309, down from $389. Meanwhile, the DJI Flip with the premium RC 2 screen remote controller has fallen to just $509 from $639.
And here’s where things get interesting.
The RC 2 remote controller by itself currently sells for around $369. So for roughly $140 more, you’re effectively getting the DJI Flip drone, battery, camera system, and flight capabilities bundled in. That’s the kind of deal that makes drone enthusiasts reach for a calculator, and then immediately stop because the math is already ridiculous.
For anyone unfamiliar with the Flip, this isn’t some stripped-down entry-level toy drone. DJI launched the Flip as a unique hybrid between its beginner-friendly selfie drones and its more traditional camera drones.
It weighs less than 249 grams, meaning it avoids FAA registration requirements for most recreational users. More importantly, it features a foldable full-coverage propeller guard that surrounds the propellers during flight. DJI has also equipped this drone with a 3D infrared sensing system capable of automatically braking when obstacles are detected. Combined, those features make the Flip one of the safest consumer drones DJI has ever produced.
That safety-first approach is exactly why the Flip has become such a popular recommendation for beginners. Unlike many first-time pilots who spend their opening flights nervously hovering over grass fields, Flip owners get a protective cocoon around the spinning propellers. It won’t make the drone completely crash-proof, but it dramatically reduces the chances of turning a beginner mistake into an expensive repair bill.
The rest of the spec sheet is also surprisingly premium. You get a 48MP camera built around a 1/1.3-inch sensor, support for 4K/60fps HDR video, intelligent subject tracking, QuickShots, Hyperlapse modes, and DJI’s latest O4 transmission system. The drone can also launch directly from your palm and supports app control, voice commands, and traditional controller operation.

That’s what makes this deal so interesting compared to DJI’s other Prime Day offers.
The DJI Neo remains the cheapest gateway into the DJI ecosystem. At its discounted price, it’s incredibly hard to beat for casual users who mainly want aerial selfies and social-media clips. But it sacrifices camera quality, flight performance, and safety features to hit that ultra-low price point.
The DJI Mini 4K sits at the other end of the beginner spectrum, offering traditional drone flying with solid image quality at a budget-friendly price. But it lacks the Flip’s unique protective propeller design and newer intelligent features.
Then there’s the DJI Air 3S. If your goal is maximizing image quality, shooting professional-looking travel videos, or getting one of DJI’s most capable camera drones, the Air 3S remains the drone to buy. Its dual-camera system, larger sensors, and advanced obstacle sensing put it in an entirely different league. But it’s also a much bigger investment. For buyers willing to spend more and who care primarily about cinematic footage, the Air 3S discount remains one of Prime Day’s strongest premium drone deals.
For everyone else, though, the Flip might be sitting in a sweet spot DJI didn’t really have before. It’s dramatically safer than most traditional drones, delivers far better camera quality than the Neo, costs far less than the Air 3S, and now happens to be selling at its lowest prices ever. The RC 2 bundle, in particular, has never been this cheap.
Prime Day is full of discounts that look impressive until you compare them to previous sales. This isn’t one of those deals. If you’ve been telling yourself you’ll buy a drone “someday,” DJI Flip may have just turned someday into today.
