This DJI Flip deal stands out amid fresh drone tariff uncertainty

The DJI Flip was already one of the easiest drones to recommend for travelers and first-time pilots. Now, a major policy change in Washington gives Americans another reason to consider picking one up while today’s deal prices are still available.

The Trump administration has announced sweeping new tariffs on imported drones and drone components, with smaller consumer drones facing a 25% tariff and certain larger or security-sensitive drones subject to duties as high as 100%. While many of the new tariffs are scheduled to take effect in the coming weeks, they have already raised fresh questions about where drone prices could head next and how readily foreign-made models will remain available in the US market.

That makes today’s DJI Flip deal prices feel a little more significant than your typical seasonal sale.

Right now, the DJI Flip two-battery combo without a remote controller is available for $309, down from $389. Buyers who prefer the RC-N3 controller can grab that bundle for $349 instead of $439. The version with DJI’s RC 2 screen controller has dropped to $509 from $639, while the fully equipped DJI Flip Fly More Combo with RC 2 is now selling for $619, reduced from $779.

Of course, discounts alone aren’t enough to make a drone worth recommending. The Flip succeeds because it tackles many of the reasons people avoid buying drones in the first place.

For starters, it’s genuinely portable. Unlike many drones that demand a dedicated carrying case, the Flip folds into a compact package and weighs under 249 grams. Whether you’re heading to the beach, hiking a trail, exploring a new city, or taking a weekend road trip, it’s small enough to slip into an everyday backpack without becoming another piece of gear to think about.

Ease of use is another major selling point. DJI clearly designed the Flip with beginners in mind. The drone can launch directly from the palm of your hand, and many of its intelligent shooting modes can be activated simply by pressing a button on the aircraft itself. Depending on which bundle you choose, you can fly using your smartphone or a traditional controller — or skip the controller altogether for quick, automated travel clips.

Want a cinematic reveal while walking through a national park? Or a family video without asking someone else to operate the camera? The Flip can automatically handle many of those flight paths on its own.

Another common concern for first-time buyers is safety. That’s where the Flip stands apart from most consumer drones. It features DJI’s first foldable full-coverage propeller guard, surrounding the spinning propellers with protective guards that make the aircraft feel much less intimidating around friends, family, or pets. It also uses 3D infrared sensing to automatically brake if it detects obstacles ahead, giving new pilots an extra layer of confidence.

For solo travelers and creators, one of the biggest attractions is AI Subject Tracking. The drone can follow you while walking, cycling, or exploring, keeping you centered in the frame without requiring constant manual control. DJI also includes its familiar QuickShot modes — including Dronie, Circle, Rocket, Spotlight, Helix, and Boomerang — making dramatic aerial footage accessible with a single tap.

Fortunately, convenience doesn’t come at the expense of image quality. The Flip packs a 1/1.3-inch CMOS sensor capable of capturing 48MP photos, 4K HDR video at 60fps, 4K slow-motion video at up to 100fps, and 10-bit D-Log M color for creators who like editing footage afterward. A three-axis mechanical gimbal keeps video smooth, while each battery delivers up to 31 minutes of flight time.

With fresh uncertainty surrounding future import costs following the Trump administration’s latest tariff announcement, today’s DJI Flip discount deals may prove to be more than just another sale. If retailers eventually pass higher import costs on to consumers, buyers who purchase now could end up getting one of DJI’s most travel-friendly drones at a price that’s difficult to match later.
