DJI Action 5 Pro update adds simple, powerful privacy lock

Here’s what’s new for DJI Action 5 Pro owners today: a small-but-useful firmware that quietly improves privacy and polish, while giving fence-sitters one more reason to jump in.

DJI has released firmware v01.05.03.20 for the Action 5 Pro camera, which is compatible with DJI Mimo app v2.3.4 (or above) on both iOS and Android. The headline change is an album password lock. Once set, the camera will ask for a password on first playback after power-on, a handy safeguard when you pass the camera around on trips, share it at the skatepark, or leave it charging in a studio. DJI also notes “minor bug fixes,” the classic catch-all that often smooths UI hiccups and edge-case crashes.

New: Your DJI Power 2000 can now make you money

That privacy perk lands on a camera that’s already been one of the year’s most compelling action cams thanks to its next-gen 1/1.3-inch sensor, ~40MP stills, 4K/120fps video capture, dual OLED touchscreens, 360° HorizonSteady stabilization tech, and up to 4 hours of operating time. It’s also waterproof to 20 m without a case, packs 47 GB of built-in storage, and connects directly to DJI’s mics for cleaner audio — all reasons creators have been flocking to it.

If you’re updating today, open the DJI Mimo app (v2.3.4) and let it walk you through the firmware install. After the update, dive into settings to enable the album password lock and choose a code you’ll actually remember. It’s a set-and-forget toggle, but it could save you awkward moments when friends scroll your clips.

For anyone still shopping, the update simply sweetens the value of the $349 Standard Combo, which includes the camera, a robust Extreme Battery Plus, protective frame, mounts, and essentials — enough to start shooting 4K/120fps bike runs or crispy travel vlogs right away. At this price, you’re getting big-sensor image quality, long battery life, and stabilized 4K without playing accessory roulette.

If your days run long (snow trips, surf dawn patrols, moto weekends), the $449 Adventure Combo is the smarter buy. DJI adds two extra Extreme Battery Plus cells and a 1.5 m extension rod, which means fewer charging breaks and easier selfie angles or follow-cam shots — all while keeping the rig compact. Those extras often cost more when purchased piecemeal, and the extra batteries turn that headline “4 hours” into realistic, all-day coverage.

And because the Action 5 Pro ships with Wi-Fi 6 / USB 3.0 transfers and Subject Tracking that keeps you centered without a gimbal, it’s a camera you can grow into — whether you’re clipping it to a helmet or mounting it on a lightstand for BTS in the studio. Toss in 47 GB onboard storage for those “forgot the card” moments, and the new privacy lock makes even more sense; now your on-camera library can stay yours until you say otherwise.
