This weekend is the 4th New York City Drone Film Festival. The event is spread out over two days, starting on Saturday, March 3rd with various panel discussions covering items such as drone tech, drone laws and pushing the creative boundaries when it comes to drone filmmaking. The second day will be in New Jersey at the Liberty Science Center where you will be able to watch micro drone racing, Fist Person View (FPV) drone competition, a drone expo and more. About the New York City Drone Film Festival
The New York City Drone Film Festival is the world’s first event exclusively dedicated to celebrating the art of drone cinematography. The festival offers an international platform for filmmakers from every corner of the globe to exhibit their work in front of industry professionals and the drone community. Now in its 4th year, #NYCDFF is happening on March 3rd & 4th, 2018.

1-2:30 – DRONE TECH – Leaders: Adam Bry, Eran Aharonov, Brian Byrne, Jonah Fine
Drone tech is ever changing. In this panel we’ll talk with some of the leading names in drone and camera tech about their individual solutions and those to come. Panelists include representatives from Skydio, RED, FreeFly Systems and Connex HD.
3 – 4:30PM – UP IN THE AIR: 2018 DRONE LAW UPDATE Leader: Jonathan Ash, Mark Connot and Alan Friedman
This year has provided major advancements in drone law that every commercial operator should be aware of. This panel of drone and entertainment law experts will discuss all of the major developments as well as provide particular insight into the issues that drone cinematographers face in the field.
5 – 6:15 – DRONES: PUSHING CREATIVE BOUNDARIES Leader: Chris Castor, Mike Bishop +
Aerial cinematography is an incredibly complex artform requiring expertise in camera motion, cinematography, drone technology and piloting skills. Moderated by festival director Randy Scott Slavin, this panel will explore the art and craft of aerial cinematography with some of the most creative drone filmmakers who are competing in the 4th annual New York City Drone Film Festival.

The DAY OF DRONES at the Liberty Science Center is a full day of drone-based programming designed to excite every level of drone enthusiast.
MICRO DRONE RACING – Watch expert pilots navigate an intricate indoor racecourse using First Person View(FPV) technology. Experience the racing first hand by trying a pair of FPV goggles in one of our viewing areas. Festival pass holders who have their own gear and would like to participate in micro drone racing please contact Frank Costello (frank@safetythirdracing.com) at Safety Third Racing. There are a limited number of spots available and is on a first come first serve basis.
FREESTYLE FPV COMPETITION – Watch expert pull insane tricks and aerial maneuvers using First Person View(FPV) technology. Experience the freestyle first hand by trying a pair of FPV goggles in one of our viewing areas. Festival pass holders who have their own gear and would like to participate in freestyle FPV please contact Frank Costello (frank@safetythirdracing.com) at Safety Third Racing. There are a limited number of spots available and is on a first come first serve basis.
DRONE EXPO – See and touch drones of all sizes and get a first look at some of the most cutting-edge drone technology.
FLIGHT DEMONSTRATION CAGE – Drones of all sizes will be flying throughout. There will also be Q&A’s with manufacturers as well as opportunities for Day of Drones attendees to fly drones.
FILM SCREENINGS – If you missed the screening of the 4th annual New York City Drone Film Festival on March 3rd you’ll have a chance to see the winning films In the Liberty Science Centers 250 person theater.
EDUCATIONAL SESSIONS – Classes for beginners, intermediate and professional drone users will be available. See below for more info on classes that are available. This list is constantly updating. First come first serve for festival pass holders.
