DJI Enterprise introduces the Zenmuse XT2 – a dual sensor thermal camera

DJI introduces the Zenmuse XT2 during a DJI Enterprise event at the Menlo Park Fire headquarters in California. During a live-tweet, DJI introduced two new products; the DJI Zenmuse XT2 and the DJI Skyport. Let’s take a closer look at the Zenmuse XT2 first.

DJI introduces the new dual sensor thermal camera the DJI Zenmuse XT2 during a DJI Enterprise event in Menlo Park, California. The camera has been developed in partnership with FLIR Systems.

“The Zenmuse XT2 continues our longstanding partnership with FLIR to create the most powerful thermal imaging solution available on a drone today. This is a significant advancement for public safety professionals who are using drones to save lives and creating new industrial applications across different verticals,” said Jan Gasparic, Head of Enterprise Partnerships at DJI.

The new Zenmuse XT2 dual sensor thermal imaging camera allows drone operators to see heat signatures that are invisible to the naked eye. We have seen a number of situations where this has helped to save people’s lives (here and here). The Zenmuse XT2 can be used in disaster recovery situations, missing persons, first aid and industrial inspection.

The DJI Zenmuse XT2 transforms the thermal imaging data into actionable insights. The camera is gimbal-stabilized and uses the FLIR radiometric thermal images and a 4K visual camera to provide drone pilots thermal and visual data during flight.

Drone pilots can use various onboard intelligent features to help them in their work. FLIR MSX technology combines thermal and visual data into one image, making it easier for the operators to sport the subject of interest. DJI offers Spotlight Pro to let the camera automatically track an object in two different intelligent flight modes: QuickTrack, which centers the camera on a selected area and HeatTrack that automatically tracks the object with the highest temperature. A third option warns the drone operator when a certain object exceeds a temperature threshold. This is called Temp Alarm.

From the DJI press release: The Zenmuse XT2 is compatible with DJI’s Matrice 200 Series and Matrice 600 Pro enterprise drones. It will be first available for the DJI Pilot mobile app for Android and later in April for the DJI XT Pro mobile app for iOS devices. Its rugged design and IP44 ingress protection rating gives it the versatility to be flown in a wide variety of conditions including rain, snow, smoke, and fog[1]. With a 12-megapixel visual camera, it is available in two thermal sensor resolutions of 640 x 512 or 336 x 256, with 9mm, 13mm, 19mm, and 25mm lenses.
