State, Local And Tribal Experiments Will Create Stronger Systems For Drone Use
May 9, 2017 – DJI, the world’s leader in civilian drones and aerial imaging technology, looks forward to the advances in drone regulatory procedures that will be enabled by the innovative proposals offered by the 10 state, local and tribal governments chosen today in the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Integration Pilot Program (IPP).
“Regulators and governments want to develop safe systems that encourage the beneficial uses of drones while addressing concerns about them, and today’s announcement is a major step forward in this effort,” said Brendan Schulman, DJI Vice President of Policy & Legal Affairs. “By connecting state, local and tribal governments with industry partners and federal support, the Integration Pilot Program makes it easier to find ways for American businesses, governments and individuals to put drones to good uses all across the country.”
The 10 programs were announced by U.S. Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao in Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration has said it will reach out to other applicants to help explore their ideas as well. As the manufacturer of most personal and professional drones used in the United States, DJI stands ready to assist these programs with technology and advice, as outlined in this document.
“Businesses, governments, nonprofits, academics and many others want to be able to use drones in their work, and the proposals selected today will make significant progress in helping America accomplish that goal while protecting safety and addressing local concerns,” Schulman said. “Soliciting a wide range of ideas and testing them across the country is a smart strategy for integrating drones into the country’s airspace.”
