Co-founder and former chief technology officer of DroneBase, Eli Tamanaha, is joining PrecisionHawk as Vice President of Strategic Initiatives reporting directly to CEO Michael Chasen. An interesting move for sure and one that the company says “underscores PrecisionHawk’s position as the vanguard of aerial intelligence that drives operational insights and as a drone industry pioneer.”
Eli Tamanaha joins PrecisionHawk
“With Eli’s depth of experience, he is ideally suited to help PrecisionHawk drive the next era of major industry innovation in which aerial intelligence will enhance nearly every aspect of business operations,” said Chasen. “As an entrepreneur and technology thought leader, Eli brings a strategic view of the market and valuable technical expertise that will help us expand the delivery of drone services to our enterprise clients.”
Tamanaha will support the strategic direction, expansion and operation of Droners.io, PrecisionHawk’s drone pilot network, which includes more than 15,000 commercially licensed drone pilots – making it the largest of its kind. Announced in February 2018, the acquisition of Droners.io equipped PrecisionHawk with a platform to support the delivery of on-demand, drone-based imagery to its enterprise clients by connecting certified drone pilots to commercial jobs.
“I am thrilled to join PrecisionHawk in this role and look forward to working with the team on advancing the Droners.io platform,” said Tamanaha. “We are just starting to see the tide turn in the drone industry as regulatory bodies are allowing corporations to do more with drones than ever before. With its strong financial-backing and extensive bench of drone technology and policy experts, I believe PrecisionHawk is best-positioned to help businesses realize the value of drone technology.”
Tamanaha joins PrecisionHawk with four patents and 15 years of experience in the technology and drone industry. Previously, he co-founded DroneBase, where he spent four years as its chief technology officer developing the company’s technology stack that connects drone pilots to commercial jobs. Prior, he held senior engineering roles at Netflix, Amazon and Microsoft. While at Netflix, Tamanaha was integral to the development of its app for Windows 8, and at Microsoft he helped lead the engineering team develop new Xbox Original TV content.
“It is clear that PrecisionHawk is making strategic advancements across verticals like energy, insurance, construction and others, and to do so, they are working in close partnership with their customers to solve interesting challenges,” said Tamanaha. “PrecisionHawk customers need to accomplish hundreds of thousands of drone flights annually, and I am excited to be in a position where I can work with those customers to understand their needs and deliver a simple and highly effective servicing pipeline.”
