This afternoon DJI released their new DJI Osmo Pocket handheld gimbal camera. Was that a surprise? No, not really. However, what did blow me away is the number of accessories that will be available for the Osmo Pocket. We will get to that in a minute. The new DJI Osmo Pocket will retail for $349 and is available for pre-order today. Shipping will start on 12/15, right on time to get the Osmo Pocket and accessories for yourself or a friend or family member.
The Osmo Pocket and accessories
In our earlier posts, we already delved into the capabilities and specs of the new DJI Osmo Pocket. Basically, it is a very small and capable, 3-axis gimbal stabilized, handheld camera, that you can take with you any time and anywhere. It shoots 12 MP stills and 4K video at 60fps and 100 Mbps. Higher than the original Mavic Pro drone. It also shoots 1080HD at 120fps for those amazing slow-motion clips.
The accessories that really stood out to me and show that DJI means business, are: the option to attach an external microphone, waterproof housing and ND filters. But there are more, that we will address in a future post.
DJI also included many useful software features, such as ActiveTrack, FaceTrack, MotionLapse, HyperLapse, Panorama, FPV mode, and NightShot. Features that are great for both video and still photography.
Assuming the video quality holds up (and I have no reason to believe that it will not), this means that DJI has created a very small and powerful package. Powerful enough that I may opt to leave my full-blown DSLR camera and gimbal at home in many situations. The best camera is the one you have with you, and with the DJI Osmo Pocket, there is no reason to not bring it with you all the time!
