At the beginning of the year, DJI introduced the DJI Smart Controller at CES 2019 in Las Vegas. We had seen the controller pop up before in many official and unofficial DJI photos. The $649 DJI Smart Controller has a 5.5″ screen built-in, which is much brighter than a smartphone as you can see in Kai’s review on Youtube. Kai’s main takeaway is that using the Smart Controller just makes flying your drone easier and keeps your phone available and charged in case you need it for something else.
DJI Smart Controller review by Kai
In a short video (even shorter if you skip the VPN promotion), Kai doesn’t delve too much into the details of the DJI Smart Controller. Luckily there are plenty of other reviews on Youtube that do. However, it does give a nice screen brightness comparison between the Smart Controller and an iPhone. The Smart Controller wins hands down.
About the DJI Smart Controller
DJI claims that with the new DJI Smart Controller flying has become a whole lot… you guessed it… smarter! The device features a 5.5″ display that is 2x brighter than your smartphone. The DJI Smart Controller runs on Google’s Android platform and allows you to use a number of different apps. The DJI Smart Controller is compatible with the DJI Mavic 2 Zoom, Pro and Enterprise drones. It uses OcuSync 2.0 for a better and more solid transmission that extends the range up to 5 miles with a clearer video feed. The DJI Smart Controller also searches for the best signal strength and switches automatically to provide the strongest transmission signal. Getting your drone into the air is up to 3x faster with the DJI Smart Controller. The DJI Smart Controller provides a 4K 60p HDMI out to an external monitor or recording device. The controller can be fully charged in two hours and can be used for 2.5 hours before the batteries run out. It will operate in temperatures from minus 20 degrees Celsius (-4 F) to 40 degrees Celsius (104 F). The DJI Smart Controller will also allow you to upload images and video straight to your phone for sharing online. More…
