In another attempt to battle the spreading problem of drones transporting contraband to prison inmates around the globe, France is soliciting bids from companies to install anti-UAV defense systems in many of the nation’s penitentiaries.
The DJI Smart Controller is showing as out of stock on the official DJI retail store as well as with several authorized resellers. Meanwhile, B&H Photo has marked the product as “discontinued” on its website.
DJI has confirmed on Twitter that it currently has no plan to add DJI Mini 2 support to the DJI Smart Controller. The info was shared in response to a tweet from one of the biggest drone YouTubers, Aldryn Estacio, talking about a recent update to the controller.
The new version of DJI’s Smart Controller software adds support for one of DJI’s most powerful prosumer-oriented drones, the DJI Phantom 4 Pro v2.0. The new update also adds the ability to use DJI goggles while using the HDMI connector to display the feed on another display.
We have heard through the grapevine that the DJI Smart Controller will work with the DJI Matrice 300. Currently, the DJI Smart Controller only works with the DJI Mavic 2 Zoom, DJI Mavic 2 Pro and the DJI Mavic 2 Enterprise series.
DJI released a new firmware update (v01.00.0650) for the DJI Smart Controller (DJI, Amazon), which offers a number of nice new features. However, it does not offer support for the re-released DJI Phantom 4 Pro V2.0 (DJI, Amazon) yet, unfortunately. Hopefully, the Chinese drone maker will add that soon. Other new features include the QuickFly function which as the name implies gets you flying faster. There’s also SkyTalk that enables you to live stream from the drone to third party apps.
