DJI Osmo Pocket 3 gets FPV gimbal mode, 4K streaming

DJI has announced new improvements to its all-in-one vlogging camera Osmo Pocket 3. The gadget with a large 1-inch CMOS sensor and a 2-inch rotatable touchscreen has a dedicated gimbal built-in, which makes it a breeze to capture experiences in dynamic, incredibly smooth detail.

Firmware v01.04.08.02 is now available to download for the Pocket 3, while the DJI Mimo app can be updated to v1.12.0 for both iOS and Android devices. If you use a DJI Mic 2 Transmitter with the camera, you can update its firmware to v04.04.05.13.

The last firmware update for Pocket 3 packed in several improvements in audio features and a cancel recording function. This time, however, the firmware update enhances the usability of the Pocket 3 as a webcam. Here are the firmware update notes from DJI:

  • Adds support for 4K resolution for USB Video Class (UVC), and 3840×2160 25/30P output. ActiveTrack and recording with DJI Mic 2 are also available when live-streaming. Set the source video resolution in the live streaming software such as OBS before use. Make sure that the performance of the computer used for live streaming and the quality of the USB cable meet the requirements for 4K resolution. Live streaming with 4K resolution has higher requirements on system performance.
  • Adds FPV gimbal mode. When enabled, and if the camera is powered on or recentered, the camera will stay perpendicular to the touchscreen, which is suitable for quickly capturing subjects.
  • Adds more options for Auto Power Off, including “Never”.
  • Adjusts the order of Wearable Mode in the Control Menu. When Wearable Mode is enabled, the screen turns off automatically after 5 seconds.
  • Optimizes the Auto-focus performance.
  • Fixes some minor bugs.

How to update Osmo Pocket 3 firmware

Connect Osmo Pocket 3 to the DJI Mimo app for a firmware update. If new firmware is available, you will be notified by DJI Mimo. Update the firmware according to the on-screen instructions. Make sure that the battery level of the camera is over 15% before updating the firmware. The update takes approximately 2 minutes.
