Reality capture and drone data management specialist DroneDeploy has introduced Safety AI, a new tool designed to automatically identify safety risks on construction sites. This innovative solution, which uses proprietary artificial intelligence and models from Google and OpenAI, aims to help contractors meet OSHA standards more effectively.
Safety AI integrates with DroneDeploy’s Ground platform, analyzing thousands of images captured weekly to detect visible safety risks. The tool ranks these risks by severity, allowing safety teams to address potential hazards more efficiently.
As recent data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics indicates, the construction industry faces significant safety challenges, with accident rates leading to $7.87 billion in costs in 2022. DroneDeploy’s new offering is designed to tackle these issues, helping contractors reduce their Experience Modification Rating (EMR), lower insurance premiums, and strengthen relationships with project owners, all without increasing staff.
“Safety AI allows experienced safety managers to monitor multiple projects daily,” says James Pipe, chief product officer at DroneDeploy. “In early tests, beta users reported an 89% reduction in unsafe conditions within three weeks. We expect similar results as we roll this out nationwide.”
Wadman Corporation, an early adopter, has already noted improvements. “I really like the extra set of eyes,” says Troy Nichols, assistant safety director. “I’m not at the project every day so when I receive the Safety AI reports, I’m able to reach out to the project team so we can discuss the activities that are in progress and determine what we need to do to get any safety risks taken care of.”
According to DroneDeploy, Safety AI achieves a 95% accuracy rate in identifying risks based on OSHA standards. As the system processes more data, it provides insights that can help companies proactively address high-risk behaviors and ensure proper training.
Currently available for all DroneDeploy Ground customers, Safety AI can be activated instantly and is capable of analyzing historical data to identify past risks.
