DJI Neo drone update brings vertical shooting, enhanced FPV experience

DJI’s ultra-compact Neo drone, already known as the most affordable flying camera in DJI’s lineup at just $199, has just gotten even better with a major firmware update. This update introduces a vertical shooting mode and compatibility with DJI’s newly unveiled Goggles N3, turning the Neo into an even more versatile tool for casual users and content creators alike.

Designed to be user-friendly, the DJI Neo packs serious tech into its small frame. It features a 4K camera with a 1/2-inch sensor and a single-axis gimbal for high-quality images and stable video, all while maintaining a straightforward control scheme. This makes the Neo especially popular among beginners and budget-conscious creators who want quality without the cost or complexity.

New features in DJI Neo firmware update

A key highlight of the latest firmware update (v01.00.0400) is that it introduces vertical shooting, allowing users to switch to portrait mode directly from the app. This feature, specifically designed with social media in mind, enables easier content creation for platforms favoring vertical formats, removing the need for post-capture adjustments.

Another new addition is Neo’s compatibility with DJI Goggles N3, providing FPV (first-person view) with added live-view stabilization. Users now get a smoother, more immersive flying experience that minimizes motion distortion during high-speed flights or tracking shots. This addition is ideal for capturing dramatic aerial perspectives, whether you’re flying over scenic landscapes or following fast-paced subjects.

The firmware also improves manual control options within the DJI Fly app, including a new control stick mode switch for more tailored handling. Additionally, audio recording is now available when using the RC-N3 and RC-N2 controllers. With a natural-style noise reduction effect, users can capture ambient sounds with minimized interference, making the Neo a more versatile vlogging tool.

Performance upgrades in the Neo firmware have also boosted its tracking and positioning accuracy, allowing for faster tracking speeds without sacrificing stability. This adds to the drone’s ease of use, enabling it to handle diverse filming scenarios with more confidence and precision.
