DJI has announced it will cease service and support for its Mavic Air drone, effective January 1, 2025. This decision marks the end of an era for one of DJI’s most groundbreaking consumer drones, first released in early 2018.
The Mavic Air stood out at its launch for its advanced features packed into a compact, travel-friendly design. With 4K video capability, 21-minute flight time, and smart features like ActiveTrack and QuickShots, it was a favorite among hobbyists and professional creators alike. Its foldable design made it particularly appealing for travelers and on-the-go enthusiasts.
DJI attributes the suspension to its periodic reassessment of product lifecycles. In a statement, the company explains that evolving technology and shifting usage requirements necessitate reallocating resources toward new innovations. While this strategic shift aligns with DJI’s vision to enhance user experience through cutting-edge products, it leaves Mavic Air owners in a bind, as repairs, updates, and other support will no longer be available.
The Mavic Air’s discontinuation follows a broader trend at DJI, where legacy models are phased out to prioritize the latest technology. Recent years have seen several older series, such as the Phantom 4 and Inspire 1, reach their support end dates.
For current Mavic Air owners, this deadline emphasizes the importance of addressing any issues before the support window closes.
