Canada-based AVSS (Aerial Vehicle Safety Solutions) has introduced the PRS-M4S, a Parachute Recovery System designed for DJI’s newly launched Matrice 4 series. This plug-and-play system is aimed at drone operators seeking regulatory approval to safely and legally conduct flights over populated areas.
The PRS-M4S offers a robust safety solution tailored to the Matrice 4 Enterprise (M4E) and Matrice 4 Thermal (M4T) models. It features a Parachute Recovery System (PRS), a Flight Termination System (FTS), an Automatic Triggering System (ATS), and a Manual Triggering Device (MTD). These components work together to reduce risks during emergency scenarios, deploying the parachute in less than 0.5 seconds. The system complies with international aviation standards, including ASTM F3322-22 and EASA MOC 2512, making it a game-changer for commercial drone operations.
AVSS plans to ship the PRS-M4S to authorized resellers starting in June 2025, coinciding with the availability of DJI’s Matrice 4 Series. This ensures that enterprise operators can integrate the safety system into their drones right from the start.

What makes the DJI Matrice 4 series special?
For those unfamiliar with the Matrice 4 Series, it represents DJI’s latest leap in enterprise drone technology. The M4E and M4T models are equipped with advanced AI capabilities and are designed for demanding tasks such as public safety, inspections, and security operations. The M4T stands out with its dual cameras, thermal imaging, and near-infrared light capabilities, making it a versatile tool for professionals.
These drones also feature enhanced obstacle detection, precision navigation, and built-in AI models capable of identifying vehicles, vessels, and individuals. This functionality simplifies data collection and analysis, offering enterprise users a streamlined solution for their operations.
Why the PRS-M4S matters
Safety is a critical factor in drone operations, especially for flights over people. Many regulatory agencies, including the FAA, EASA, and Transport Canada, mandate the use of safety systems like parachutes for such operations. The PRS-M4S not only fulfills these requirements but also provides peace of mind for operators by ensuring a safe recovery mechanism in emergencies.
As the drone industry continues to evolve, safety systems like the PRS-M4S play a pivotal role in enabling new applications. For a closer look at the PRS-M4S in action, AVSS has released a video showcasing its deployment on the DJI Matrice 4 series. Watch it here:
