DJI amps up Power line with new solar, super fast car chargers

The drone maker turned adventure company has upgraded the DJI Power lineup with new “super-fast chargers” for van lifers or RV owners. The expansion continues to make DJI Power more competitive in the portable battery space.

DJI announced early Wednesday morning the addition of the 1.8kW Car/Solar Super Fast Charger and 1kW Super Fast Car Charger to the DJI Power lineup. These two chargers are designed to attach directly to your vehicle’s alternator, providing a charge to the battery while the vehicle’s engine is running.

Perfect for those looking to add a substantial amount of battery backup to a car they use on long trips like vans or RVs.

The 1.8 kW charger also provides the option to add solar power generation to any vehicle, making it perfect for off-the-grid camping trips.

Supporting both the DJI Power and its expansion battery, adding either with a Super Fast Charger could instantly give your RV 3,072 Wh of power. The chargers are also bidirectional, meaning power stored in DJI’s system can keep your vehicle’s 12v or 24v battery charged.

DJI Power entered the market internationally at the end of 2023 but became available in the United States in April 2024. Attempting to compete against the likes of Jackery and BLUETTI, the market is tough to crack.

With the Super Fast Chargers, DJI is now trying to make its system the go-to for anyone that lives out of a vehicle part or full time. Which makes sense; the van life craze has continued to take hold on social media and on YouTube. While not everyone is a content creator, many love capturing their adventures and nature and likely already have a DJI drone to do just that. Keeping them in the ecosystem with a DJI Power system makes sense.

We reviewed the DJI Power last year at the nationwide solar eclipse here in the US and then later again camping for a week at Oshkosh’s EAA AirVenture air show. It’s a solid system with great power output and I/O. The smaller DJI Power 500 might work better if you don’t have a large setup or have a converted car as a camper, but either one is a great product by DJI.
