This pocket-sized drone detection device tells you who’s flying

In recent months, the United States has witnessed a surge in drone activity, with numerous sightings reported across the Northeast. Between mid-November and late December 2024, over 5,000 drone sightings were documented along the East Coast, particularly in New Jersey, New York, and Connecticut. While federal investigations have determined that many of these drones were authorized and posed no security threat, the sheer volume of reports underscores the growing presence of drones in our airspace.

In response to these escalating concerns, Dronetag has unveiled the RIDER — a pocket-sized device that tells you exactly what drones are nearby and where they came from. It’s a wireless, battery-powered Remote ID receiver that picks up drone signals and relays the info straight to your phone.

Dronetag’s RIDER: Your new companion for drone detection

The RIDER detects Broadcast/Direct Remote ID signals from drones flying within a 10-kilometer (6-mile) range. That means whether it’s a DJI, Autel, or Skydio drone, you can see its details in real time. The device connects to the Dronetag app via LTE, Bluetooth, or USB-C, letting you track drones and understand what’s happening in your airspace.

At just 64 grams (about the weight of a deck of cards) and small enough to clip onto your backpack or radio controller, the RIDER is designed for easy use on the go.

Designed with public safety units and professional drone pilots in mind, the RIDER offers tailored benefits:

  1. Public safety units: For police, fire departments, and public safety agencies, the RIDER provides real-time detection and situational awareness of drone activity in sensitive or high-risk zones. This capability enables swift responses to potential threats or disruptions, ensuring airspace security and protecting restricted areas.
  2. Commercial drone pilots: For pilots operating commercial or industrial drones, the RIDER serves as an invaluable tool for safeguarding valuable assets and equipment. By providing clear visibility of surrounding drone activity, it helps pilots avoid potential collisions, ensuring safer operations during critical flights.

For those interested in acquiring the RIDER, Dronetag is offering a special pre-order price of $899, available until mid-March through their online store. The device is expected to be available through authorized resellers in the US and EU by mid-February.
