DJI has rolled out a major new firmware update for its enterprise-grade Dock 3 and Matrice 4D drone series. Here’s what you need to know about these cutting-edge tools and how the latest firmware enhances their capabilities for autonomous operations, data management, and mission efficiency.
The DJI Dock 3 is an advanced “drone-in-a-box” solution designed for 24/7 remote operations. It allows drones to autonomously take off, land, and recharge without human intervention. Notably, the Dock 3 supports mobile vehicle-mounted deployment, enabling operations from moving vehicles — a first for DJI’s docking systems .
Paired with the Dock 3 are the Matrice 4D and 4TD drones, part of DJI’s Matrice 4 series. These drones are engineered for enterprise applications, featuring multi-sensor payloads, including wide-angle, medium telephoto, and telephoto cameras. The Matrice 4TD adds an infrared thermal camera for enhanced night-time capabilities.

DJI Dock 3, Matrice 4D drones firmware update highlights
The new firmware versions — v13.01.00.02 for both Dock and aircraft, among others — introduce several enhancements:
- Swap Task in Virtual Cockpit: Automatically schedules two aircraft to swap for uninterrupted operations after selecting an area of interest.
- Link Zoom Support: Synchronizes zoom between visible light and infrared camera views in the virtual cockpit.
- Flight Route Task Distribution: Allows users to view, select, distribute, and perform flight route tasks within the virtual cockpit.
- Real-Time Photo Transfer: Enables photos captured during flight to be transferred to the cloud in real-time.
- Flight Records Access: Adds a flight records feature in the task plan library, allowing users to view and export detailed task information.
- Emergency Landing Feature: Introduces an emergency landing function for the Matrice 4D Series.
- Remote D-RTK 3 Relay Connection: Allows DJI Dock 3 to remotely connect to the D-RTK 3 relay, enhancing positioning accuracy.
- Enhanced Spotlight Modes: Adds gimbal connection, wide FOV lighting, and alternate strobe mode for the spotlight.
- Vehicle-Mounted Deployment Restrictions: Implements flight restrictions if the dock location is not calibrated during vehicle-mounted deployments.
- Battery Lifespan Warnings: Introduces warnings and flight restrictions when the battery reaches its lifespan limit.
DJI Pilot 2 enhancements:
Smart 3D Capture and Oblique collection
When used with the DJI Pilot 2 app, the Matrice 4D Series now supports Smart 3D Capture and Smart Oblique in ortho collection. These features facilitate efficient data collection for 3D modeling and mapping tasks.
Optimized airborne relay
The update also optimizes the airborne relay function with the Pilot 2 app, ensuring the relay aircraft adjusts its orientation to face the main aircraft, thereby maintaining optimal video transmission signals.
Smart detection enhancements
Smart detection in Pilot 2 now supports confidence threshold adjustments, increasing the number of recognized subjects. Additionally, it supports uploading multiple algorithms to the aircraft, enhancing object recognition capabilities.
Improved Dock site evaluation
For Dock site evaluations using the Matrice 4D Series, the maximum flight altitude of the exit/entry route has been adjusted to 60 meters, providing greater flexibility during assessments.
These updates significantly enhance the operational efficiency and safety of DJI’s enterprise drone solutions. By automating complex tasks and improving data management, organizations can conduct more effective inspections, surveillance, and mapping operations.
To take advantage of these new features, ensure that the firmware for the aircraft, remote controller, and the docking station are all updated to the latest versions. Compatibility between these components is essential for seamless operation.
