Is DJI working on a 360 camera?

A potential leak shows what looks like product images of what they’re calling the DJI Osmo 360. How likely is this? What could it possibly be?

DJI’s Osmo action cameras have been in heated competition with GoPro and Insta360 as one of the few areas where DJI has solid competitors. Both brands have 360 cameras with the new Insta360 X5 and GoPro Max, so why wouldn’t DJI try to compete with them?

With that said, the leaked image is not a perfect or even potentially credible leak. If you look closely, the camera on the potential Osmo 360 looks very similar to the one on Insta360’s X5, leading to my belief that the image is photoshopped.

Xdrones Studio, the account behind the leak, states the product is in testing, although it indicates that the product is being purchased. This is not usually how the final testing state ends; “Key Opinion Leaders” are usually given test units that they can purchase at a reduced rate after testing is complete. However, given that this is the first leak of such a camera from DJI, a notoriously terrible company at keeping product secrets, I wouldn’t believe the Osmo 360 is that far along.

I wouldn’t rule it out completely, as it would be a logical step in DJI’s move to continue its market competition with Insta360 and GoPro. This year? Probably not, but you never know. We’ll just have to wait for a more credible leak.
