HoverAir is now offering more details of its next big thing, Aqua, a 100% waterproof, self-flying camera drone designed to take off and land directly on water.
Our first glimpse of Aqua hinted at a drone built for aquatic adventures. Now, with new specs revealed by the company, it’s clear HoverAir isn’t just waterproofing its technology — it’s reshaping what a flying camera can do in water-heavy environments.
One of the biggest takeaways from the new details is the Aqua’s sub-250g weight. That’s important not just for portability; it also means no FAA registration is required for recreational flyers in the US. The Aqua falls neatly below the 249g threshold, making it a true grab-and-go device for weekend warriors and casual creators.
Despite its featherlight design, the Aqua is no toy. It brings premium hardware and intelligent features to the table, or rather, to the water.
According to HoverAir, Aqua is the first fully waterproof self-flying camera, purpose-built for aquatic environments. The drone features 15+ waterproofing technologies, enabling it to take off from and land on water surfaces with ease.
That makes it ideal for boating, kayaking, paddleboarding, or simply floating in the pool — wherever you go, Aqua follows. Literally.
Thanks to advanced tracking and autonomous flight capabilities, Aqua can keep you in the frame without manual controls. It can fly in orbits, follow your movement, and frame shots all on its own.
HoverAir isn’t skimping on image quality either. The Aqua features a 1/1.3-inch CMOS sensor and shoots 4K video at up to 100 frames per second. Even better, the drone includes a custom lens engineered for use around water, promising sharper, clearer visuals even with all the splash and glare.
If you’ve struggled to capture cinematic moments near water with traditional drones, Aqua is built to change that.
Water environments often mean wind, and HoverAir knows it. The Aqua boasts Level 7 wind resistance, capable of handling gusts up to 33 knots (about 38 mph). With a top speed of 55 km/h (34 mph), it’s not just a camera drone, it’s an action-ready companion for all kinds of outdoor adventures.
While these fresh details give us a much better idea of what to expect from the HoverAir Aqua, the company has yet to announce a launch date or price. But given the brand’s history of other lightweight, hands-free drones like the $299 X1, HoverAir Aqua is already generating strong interest.
