While we’re only a few months into the FCC’s official ban on new DJI products, we’ve been struggling with the issues for over a year now. DJI’s most capable and state-of-the-art drones never became available in the US, but some retailers are still getting their hands on them.
DJI’s Mavic 4 Pro and Mini 5 Pro were released in 2025 worldwide, except in the United States. Due to difficulties in importing the products and added tariffs on Chinese goods, DJI paused the rollout of the drones in its largest market.
That doesn’t mean you cannot buy the drones here in the States; the FCC approved them for use, so if you have one or came across one, it’s fair game. Both DJI’s own retail stores and large retail sites like Adorama, B&H, and Amazon have listings with occasional stock.
Amazon listings are the shadiest, most of the time coming from unknown third-party suppliers that could be a scam or charging way more than the drone’s regular price. Of all the ways to attempt to purchase a Mavic 4 or Mini 5, Amazon is not the way to go.
But other retailers will occasionally come into stock; local camera stores regularly share new stocks of the drones, although how they’re getting them is unknown. Purchasing from one of these local retailers would be the safest option, as you will be able to physically see the drones before purchasing them, reducing scams.
A DJI spokesperson shared that the DJI Mavic 4 Pro and Mini 5 Pro are still not officially launched in the United States and are not actually importing the drones into the country.
That means any drones you see for sale inside the US are likely coming from another country. This does raise a potential concern about warranties or getting either of these drones serviced. If you need to ship your drone to DJI outside the country for repair, getting it back may be an issue.
DJI has sued the FCC to reverse the ban, stating that DJI was never offered a chance to defend itself and that the FCC has given no explanation for how DJI is a threat to national security.
