DJI’s latest deals make shaky phone footage a thing of the past

Smartphones today can shoot cinematic 4K, handle low light, and even mimic DSLR depth. But there’s still one thing they can’t fix on their own: movement. That tiny shake when you walk. That awkward jitter when you pan. That “almost good” clip that never quite looks professional. That’s exactly where DJI’s Osmo Mobile gimbals step in. And right now, they’re unusually affordable.

This spring, DJI is quietly making one of the biggest arguments yet for ditching traditional tripods altogether. Its Osmo Mobile lineup just got some serious price cuts:

  • Osmo Mobile 8: $126 (was $149)
  • Osmo Mobile 7P: $99 (was $129)
  • Osmo Mobile 7: $59 (was $75)

Three price points, same core idea: Make your phone footage look like it was shot by someone who knows what they’re doing.

At the heart of all three gimbals is 3-axis stabilization, which actively counters your hand movements in real time. But stabilization alone isn’t what makes these feel next-level. It’s ActiveTrack, DJI’s AI tracking system, that changes how you shoot. Instead of manually framing every shot, DJI gimbals can:

  • Lock onto a subject (you, a friend, even a pet)
  • Follow movement automatically
  • Keep tracking even if the subject briefly leaves the frame

This isn’t just face tracking. It understands body shapes and motion patterns, meaning it can follow someone running, turning, or partially blocked, without you touching the screen. And yes, it works on pets too. Dogs, cats… the gimbal keeps them centered while they move unpredictably. That alone turns solo shooting into something that feels like you have a camera operator.

DJI Osmo Mobile 8: Your phone, but cinematic

If you want everything DJI currently offers in a phone gimbal, this is it. The Osmo Mobile 8 adds a few key capabilities that go beyond basic stabilization:

  • 360° continuous rotation for seamless tracking shots and spins
  • Apple DockKit support, allowing subject tracking even inside iPhone native apps
  • Apple Watch control, so you can frame and trigger shots remotely
  • Multifunctional module with:
    • Built-in fill light
    • Wireless mic support
    • Enhanced tracking sensor

There’s also a built-in extension rod and tripod, so you can shoot wide angles, group shots, or hands-free content without carrying anything extra. And if your phone battery dips mid-shoot? The gimbal can charge it.

This is the one that feels closest to a full production tool… just scaled down to your pocket.

DJI Osmo Mobile 7P: The sweet spot for most people

At $99, the Osmo Mobile 7P keeps most of what matters. You still get:

  • ActiveTrack 7.0
  • 3-axis stabilization
  • Built-in tripod + extension rod
  • 10-hour battery life with phone charging

And importantly, it also includes the multifunctional module, which means:

  • Subject tracking works even across different camera apps
  • You get a small fill light for low-light clips
  • You can pair DJI microphones like the $25 Mic Mini directly

What it skips are the more advanced ecosystem features like deeper Apple integrations and 360° continuous rotation. But for most people? This hits the sweet spot, especially if your goal is better travel videos, reels, or vlogs without overthinking it.

Osmo Mobile 7: The $59 “why not” upgrade

This is where things get interesting. At $59, the Osmo Mobile 7 keeps the essentials:

  • 3-axis stabilization
  • ActiveTrack 7.0
  • Built-in tripod
  • Same core shooting modes and app features

It’s lighter, simpler, and skips extras like the extension rod and advanced modules. But the core transformation is still there. If your current workflow is “hold phone and walk,” this alone changes how your footage looks. Walking shots become smooth, pans feel intentional, and static shots actually stay static.

And thanks to DJI’s magnetic clamp system, you can snap your phone in and start shooting in seconds without any setup friction.

The best part is, all three gimbals are designed to work with most modern smartphones, including iPhones and Android devices within standard size and weight ranges.

But iPhone users get an extra edge, especially with the Osmo Mobile 8:

  • Native app tracking via Apple DockKit
  • Apple Watch remote control
  • Seamless switching between front/rear cameras via hardware buttons

That means you’re not locked into DJI’s app if you don’t want to be, which is a big shift from older gimbals.

A few years ago, phone gimbals felt niche. Today, they feel inevitable. Because the camera in your pocket is already powerful; it just needs stability and intelligence to match. And that’s exactly what these devices deliver.

This is exactly why DJI gimbals are popping up more often as gifts, also. They’re simple enough for beginners to use right away, but powerful enough that even someone serious about content creation will actually keep using it. Whether it’s for someone heading on a summer trip, getting into vlogging, or just wanting better everyday videos, this is one of those rare gadgets that feels instantly useful.
