Leaked DJI Air 3S specs point to major upgrade over Air 3 drone

With the highly anticipated DJI Air 3S rumored to launch soon, key details of the drone have now leaked online. Touted as the next iteration of the DJI Air series, the Air 3S is packed with advanced technology, and its specs suggest a significant upgrade over the Air 3.

The new information about the Air 3S comes from long-time leaker Igor Bogdanov. According to leaks, the Air 3S will feature a dual-camera setup, designed to cater to both wide-angle and telephoto needs. The main camera sports a 1-inch CMOS sensor, offering a 50MP resolution with an f/1.8 aperture for crisp, vibrant shots. This will be paired with a telephoto lens that boasts a 70mm focal length, f/2.8 aperture, and a 48MP resolution, allowing for up to 9x digital zoom. Both cameras are said to feature up to 14 stops of dynamic range, which means users will capture images with more depth, detail, and flexibility for post-processing.

In comparison, the Air 3 comes equipped with a dual-camera system as well, but the wide-angle lens features a smaller 1/1.3-inch sensor and 48MP resolution, while the telephoto camera offers a 3x zoom range with a 70mm focal length. While both drones provide impressive imaging capabilities, the Air 3S appears to promise improved performance, particularly in low-light settings, thanks to its larger sensor and higher resolution.

It appears that the new DJI drone is designed to excel in video capture, offering 4K video at 60fps across both the wide-angle and telephoto lenses. For slow-motion enthusiasts, the Air 3S is likely to deliver 4K/120fps, providing silky-smooth footage ideal for cinematic shots. Moreover, the 10-bit D-log M and HLG support will ensure accurate color reproduction and a wider dynamic range, giving creators more flexibility when editing.

This is also a step up from the Air 3, which also records 4K/60fps but only supports slow-motion at 1080p/120fps. The enhanced slow-motion capabilities and superior color accuracy of the Air 3S make it more appealing to filmmakers and content creators who demand high-quality visuals.

Leaked specs further suggest that the Air 3S will not just impress with its camera — its flight performance will also be equally commendable. According to the leaks, the drone can stay aloft for up to 45 minutes on a single charge, just a minute shy of the Air 3’s 46-minute flight time. However, it may include more advanced features like APAS 5.0 (Advanced Pilot Assistance System) and next-gen Return to Home (RTH) functionality, making flights safer and more autonomous.

Obstacle avoidance is also expected to see a boost with the Air 3S thanks to its LiDAR-supported sensor system. This should make navigating complex environments easier, adding another layer of protection for users pushing their drones to the limit.

One exciting feature of the Air 3S is its possible built-in 42GB of memory, which dwarfs the 8GB internal storage of the Air 3. With additional support for up to 512GB via MicroSD, the Air 3S could allow for extended shooting without worrying about running out of space.

Being a DJI drone, the Air 3S will come with a variety of smart shooting modes like QuickShots, MasterShots, and FocusTrack. With leaks pointing to an enhanced night mode and Hyperlapse capabilities, the Air 3S looks tailor-made for creators who need a versatile tool for various shooting conditions.
