New details about DJI’s upcoming flagship drone, Mavic 4, have surfaced, suggesting significant upgrades over its predecessor. It appears that DJI is focusing on extending flight times for users by equipping the Mavic 4 with a substantially larger battery, a move that could outshine the Mavic 3 series.
While DJI has yet to officially confirm the Mavic 4, the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has disclosed documents hinting at two new models — codenamed “JV31” and “JV32”. Though these codes don’t directly mention the Mavic 4, it is speculated they represent the upcoming Cine and Pro versions of the drone. The FCC’s filings even include sketches that resemble a drone, further fueling anticipation.
A key aspect of these leaks is the Mavic 4’s battery size. According to the FCC documentation, both JV31 and JV32 are expected to come with a 99.5 Wh battery (14.76V/6,471 mAh). This is a notable upgrade from the Mavic 3 and Mavic 3 Pro, which feature a 77 Wh (15.4V/5,000 mAh) battery. The Mavic 3 series offers flight times of up to 46 minutes, so this new battery could push the Mavic 4 beyond this limit, offering longer airborne sessions.
DJI has been active in expanding its drone lineup this year, having already introduced its most affordable selfie drone, the $199 Neo, over the summer, and likely unveiling the Air 3S later this week. However, the Mavic 4 is expected to take center stage as DJI’s premium model, building on the success of its predecessors.
While the FCC documents have provided some insight, many details remain speculative.
