FCC confirms Mavic 4 Pro drone is coming, and it’s packed!

Tech giant DJI is on a roll, with back-to-back leaks and revelations shaking up the drone world. Hot on the heels of details about the foldable DJI Flip, the company’s flagship Mavic 4 Pro drone has now appeared in the FCC database, indicating an official launch could be just around the corner.

FCC listing confirms DJI Mavic 4 Pro

DJI’s latest FCC filing identifies two models of the Mavic 4 Pro, designated as L3A and L3B. While the distinctions between the two aren’t specified, the documents do shed light on significant upgrades. The drone will feature a new battery system with improved capacity, suggesting enhanced flight time and operational reliability — essential for extended shoots or complex missions.

Building on the Mavic 3 Pro’s impressive capabilities, the Mavic 4 Pro looks set to elevate performance across the board. Leaked details by industry insider OsitaLV point to several standout features, including:

  • Dual-display functionality showing live video alongside mapping data for enhanced control.
  • RTK support, a professional-grade feature for centimeter-level accuracy.
  • Cine Premium Edition with an enormous 2TB onboard SSD, catering to creators handling high-resolution footage.
  • Main camera improvements, including 14 stops of dynamic range for superior detail.
  • Triple-eye visual positioning for improved stability and safety in challenging conditions.
  • Redesigned gimbal allowing greater tilt flexibility, from -90° to +80.

Breaking: DJI fires back at proposed US ban on Chinese drones

The original Mavic 3 made waves upon its release in November 2021 with its dual-camera system and Hasselblad collaboration. However, its rollout faced criticism for shipping without several promised features, which DJI delivered later through firmware updates. This staggered approach, while eventually successful, frustrated early adopters. With the Mavic 4 Pro, DJI is likely to prioritize delivering a more polished product at launch, a move that could reinforce customer trust.

Nonetheless, the timing of this FCC listing has sparked speculation about DJI’s broader strategy. As the company navigates regulatory and market pressures, introducing a high-profile drone like the Mavic 4 Pro could bolster its position before potential policy changes impact pricing or availability.

Historically, DJI launches often follow FCC filings by mere weeks. This pattern suggests that the Mavic 4 Pro could debut by year’s end, giving drone enthusiasts plenty to look forward to as they gear up for holiday purchases or early 2025 projects.
