Autonomous drones to boost border surveillance in new partnership

Ondas Holdings and Volatus Aerospace have announced a new strategic partnership aimed at boosting border security with cutting-edge autonomous drones. By joining forces, the companies plan to deploy the Optimus System — an advanced drone platform capable of 24/7 aerial monitoring and intelligence gathering.

At the heart of this collaboration is Ondas’ subsidiary, American Robotics, which developed the Optimus System. This fully autonomous drone is designed to enhance surveillance, improve response times, and provide round-the-clock intelligence for critical infrastructure and sensitive locations.

Unlike traditional drone operations that require human pilots, the Optimus System can operate entirely on its own. Equipped with automated battery and payload swapping, it stays in the air longer, gathering real-time data through a variety of sensors, including LiDAR. This allows security teams to detect and respond to potential threats before they escalate.

Volatus Aerospace brings its expertise in Operations Control Centers (OCC) to the table. This means the Optimus System won’t be working alone — it will be integrated with piloted and remotely piloted aircraft, as well as ground-based sensors to create a powerful, multi-layered security solution.

The timing of this partnership couldn’t be better. With increasing concerns over illegal immigration, drug trafficking, and border security, governments around the world are looking for more effective ways to monitor and protect their national boundaries. The US-Canada border alone spans 5,525 miles, making traditional surveillance methods both costly and inefficient.

While border surveillance is a primary focus, this partnership isn’t stopping there. The companies aim to expand into Canada, the UK, and Africa, offering drone security solutions for industries like oil and gas, utilities, and critical infrastructure protection. Volatus will also serve as an authorized training center for the Optimus System, ensuring operators can maximize the platform’s potential.
