If you’re planning to buy or sell a DJI drone second-hand, there’s a major policy update you need to know — one that could lock you out of your own gear if you’re not careful.
Starting June 19, 2025, DJI will only allow account rebinding, unbinding, or binding requests to be submitted by the current bound account holder. That means if you pick up a used drone and the original owner didn’t unbind it from their account, you won’t be able to complete the transfer — and DJI support can’t help you fix it anymore.
The change is aimed at tightening account security and preventing unauthorized access to DJI devices involved in second-hand transactions, corporate handovers, or even gifts. But for buyers, sellers, and drone resellers, this marks a critical shift.

What you must do if you’re transferring ownership
Before any resale or gifting of a DJI product, the current owner must unbind the device through the DJI Fly app (or the relevant app for that device). The new owner can then bind the device to their DJI account and connect their remote controller.
This is especially important for platforms like eBay, Facebook Marketplace, or reseller sites where used drones are frequently listed. If you buy a drone and it’s still bound to the previous user’s account, you’re essentially stuck with a grounded bird.
Here’s a step-by-step guide to rebinding a second-hand DJI drone.
Affected DJI drones and cameras
This policy update applies across DJI’s entire product lineup, including consumer drones like the DJI Mavic 4 Pro, DJI Mini 4 Pro, DJI Air 3S, and DJI Avata 2; enterprise drones such as the Mavic 3E, Matrice 30T, and Matrice 4T, professional gear like the Inspire 3; as well as handheld devices, including the Osmo Action 4, Osmo Pocket 3, and Osmo Mobile 7P.
Here’s the full list of affected products:
- DJI Mavic series: DJI Mavic 4 Pro, DJI Mavic 3 Pro, DJI Mavic 3 Pro Cine, DJI Mavic 3 Classic, DJI Mavic 3 Cine, DJI Mavic 3
- DJI Air series: DJI Air 3S, DJI Air 3, DJI Air 2S, Mavic Air 2
- DJI Mini series: DJI Mini 4K, DJI Mini 4 Pro, DJI Mini 2 SE, DJI Mini 3, DJI Mini 3 Pro, DJI Mini SE, DJI Mini 2
- DJI Avata series: DJI Avata 2, DJI Avata
- DJI Flip series: DJI Flip
- DJI Neo series: DJI Neo
- Enterprise drones: Mavic 3E, Mavic 3T, Mavic 3M, Matrice 30, Matrice 30T (excluding Matrice 30 Series Dock Version), Matrice 4E, Matrice 4T
- Professional imaging: Inspire 3
- Handheld: Osmo Action series, Osmo Pocket series, Osmo Mobile series
DJI’s move prioritizes account security, but it also places responsibility squarely on users to properly unbind devices before selling or gifting them. So before you take off with a second-hand drone, make sure it’s unbound — or it won’t fly at all.
