DJI Mini 5 Pro drone gets smarter with new firmware

If you’re in the market for a drone that feels both futuristic and ready for action, DJI just gave the Mini 5 Pro another reason to steal your attention, and possibly your wallet. A fresh firmware rollout, aircraft v01.00.0400, and updated controller firmware across all major remotes have just hit the skies and brought smart enhancements that make this featherweight flyer even safer and more reliable.

The highlight feature of the new firmware is that DJI has optimized the low battery RTH (Return-to-Home) strategy. DJI engineers have tweaked the algorithm so the Mini 5 Pro calculates its path home more reliably when the battery runs low. This update is a thoughtful safety upgrade that gives pilots real peace of mind.

DJI has also added official propeller guard support. It sounds small, but for newer flyers, indoor flyers, or anyone who’s ever nicked a branch, this is comfort food. You can now fly in tighter places with much less anxiety.

One of the sneakiest (and frankly annoying) bugs people complained about was that Spotlight mode didn’t work in Cine mode. DJI finally fixed it in this update. And if you’re wondering why this matters, here’s the simple version: Spotlight is basically your drone saying, “I’ll keep the camera glued to your subject; you handle flying.” It’s perfect for shooting cinematic reveals, tracking a person, car, bike, or boat while you fly manually, keeping your framing rock-solid even when you’re still learning, and for super smooth, slow, and controlled moves (which Cine mode is all about). Now that Spotlight works properly in Cine, and this is honestly one of those fixes that makes you mutter “finally” under your breath, in the best possible way.

Firmware updates aside, here’s the recurring question: Should you grab a Mini 5 Pro drone while you still can?

Well, it’s under 249g, which means you avoid most registration hassles. This is a huge deal for casual pilots and travelers. Also, the 1-inch 50MP sensor is nuts in this size. Think crisp 4K/60 HDR video, wild 4K/120 slow motion, and beautiful low-light performance. And the full-sensor vertical mode is a dream for Reels, Shorts, TikTok, or anyone doing travel content.

Another key highlight is true flagship-grade obstacle avoidance with forward, backward, and downward sensors. Everything works together with LiDAR for very confident flying with a battery that delivers about 36 minutes on the standard pack, and up to 52 minutes with the Plus battery.

Basically, the DJI Mini 5 Pro is a drone that marries pro-grade capabilities with a near-pocketable footprint. So, yes, it’s a wise investment in both creativity and capability.
