DC Rainmaker posted this video a few days ago in which he tests the battery life of the DJI Mavic 2 Pro and Zoom models. The cold weather battery test took place in the Canadian mountains where it was about a negative 18 degrees Fahrenheit or about minus 8-9 degrees Celsius.
Cold weather battery test
The batteries for both drones were ‘hot of the charger’ and lasted 27:32 minutes for the hovering DJI Mavic 2 Pro and 26:53 for the actively flown DJI Mavic 2 Zoom. Normal flying times for these drones according to the specs are 31 minutes. We do not know how much time the batteries had been exposed to the cold before he sent them up in the air and started his cold weather battery test. I assume not much time had passed as he mentioned they were hot of the charger. So, keep in mind if you were to go on a long hike prior to flying your drone, you may very well experience shorter flight times as the longer exposure to low temperatures would have drained the batteries to some degree.
Here’s what DC Rainmaker had to say about the cold weather battery test:
“Winter is coming! Ready for the snow and ice? I put the DJI Mavic 2 drone to the test to see how it handles early-season winter weather conditions. At -10*C (~18*F), it was nice and chilly to validate whether or not the DJI Mavic 2 batteries could last up to the claimed 31 minutes. Plus, whether or not the drone would handle at the absolute minimum temperature it was spec’d for (-10*C). Everything in this video from the air is shot with a Mavic 2 Zoom or Mavic 2 Pro in 4K/30FPS (normal picture profile, defaults.”
