President Trump tweeted yesterday that drones are “lots of fun,” but only a “good old fashioned wall” works. The tweet went out on the second day of the partial government shutdown after Congress missed a midnight deadline on Friday to reach a compromise with the White House.
Trump says drones are lots of fun
On Sunday, President Trump said that he will accept a wall along the U.S. – Mexico border.
In a tweet President Trump said:
“The only way to stop drugs, gangs, human trafficking, criminal elements and much else from coming into our Country is with a Wall or Barrier. Drones and all of the rest are wonderful and lots of fun, but it is only a good old fashioned Wall that works!”
Trump’s drones are “lots of fun” tweet was the first one on the second day of the partial government shutdown after Congress missed a midnight deadline on Friday to reach a compromise with the White House. According to the Washington Examiner, the incoming acting White House chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney said the government could remain shut down into 2019.
The government shutdown resulted after Trump torpedoed legislation that was already passed by the House but did not include $5 billion for a border wall. On Friday the Senate was not able to reach a compromise after some Republicans and all the Democrats refused to pass the legislation.
On Sunday, Mulvaney said that the White House had offered Democratic leaders a new number during a meeting on Saturday. They are still “waiting to hear back” about that counteroffer.
The wall along the border has been one of Trump’s campaign promises that he has clearly not yet given up on.
