Legendary surfer Derek Ho almost hit by Phantom drone at Pipeline

In this short but beautiful YouTube video, legendary surfer Derek Ho is almost hit by a Phantom drone as he surfs the Bonzai Pipeline. Unfortunately, the video doesn’t provide us with a lot of background information other than that it was shot with a Phantom drone as well on January 13, 2019.

Legendary surfer Derek Ho almost hit by a Phantom drone

As you can see in the final seconds of the video posted by avid outdoors, the other Phantom drone swoops in during the final seconds of Derek Ho’s sunset ride. It is hard to see from a distance but at the closest point, the Phantom drone seems to be only a few feet away from the legendary surfer.

There have been plenty of close calls with drones and surfers or other sportsmen in the past as the temptation is always there to get the camera or drone closer to the action. Luckily, in this case, all went well and Derek Ho was unharmed. And the Phantom drone will fly another day.
