FAA partners with Kittyhawk: new B4UFLY app on the horizon

Kittyhawk is on a roll the last few weeks. First, they announced their new Kittyhawk Dynamic Airspace platform, which brings all the data, enterprise drone operators need to know in one handy app. Now the company announces that they are developing the B4UFLY app in partnership with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). A new B4UFLY app is on the horizon and scheduled to be released later this year. That’s great news!

New B4UFLY app is on the horizon

The FAA’s B4UFLY mobile app is a handy and free tool that helps drone pilots fly their unmanned aircraft in compliance with the FAA’s rules and regulations. It’s a great app and it works but as people who are familiar with it might agree, it could use some updating.

Today, Joshua Ziering, founder of Kittyhawk announces in a press release that the company will be working with the FAA in an exclusive public-private partnership to “rejuvenate and lead development of the FAA’s B4UFLY mobile application using Kittyhawk’s Platform.”

We have heard from commercial drone pilots how much the appreciate Kittyhawk’s software, so to now see parts of that coming to all drone pilots in the form of a new B4UFLY app is great news. Ziering says in the press release that:

“Our primary focus at Kittyhawk is safety. We know that the future of a successful integration of drones into the National Airspace (NAS) depends upon a strong foundation of safety. This means giving pilots the information they need in a precise, reliable and concise format. Kittyhawk will be leveraging the power of our recently released Dynamic Airspace™ product to power the new and improved B4UFLY mobile app.”

The goal of the partnership is to turn the FAA’s B4UFLY app into a ‘best-in-class solution’ that will help all drone pilots in the US to better understand the airspace and thus enable them to fly safely and responsibly.

“We want to provide drone pilots with the best tools possible so they fly safely and responsibly,” said Acting FAA Administrator Dan Elwell. “As drone sales increase and our nation’s airspace becomes busier and more complex, it’s vital that we work smarter and partner with the private sector to develop innovative products that advance safety.”

Kittyhawk and the FAA are already working on the new next version of the B4UFLY app. A release date has not yet been made public, but the app is expected to be ready later this year.
