After recording The Drone U / DroneDJ news show today, Paul Aitken and I were talking about the upcoming NAB 2019 and how some people were hoping for a Phantom 5 launch at the event in Las Vegas. To my surprise, Paul told me that DJI wasn’t even on the list of exhibitors this year, even though the company has had a booth in previous years. Time to get some clarification. I contacted DJI to find out about DJI’s absence. Adam Lisberg, Corporate Communications Director for DJI North America, confirmed that indeed, DJI will not be at NAB 2019 as the company is exploring other avenues. So, with that, any hope of a Phantom 5 launch at the event evaporates. Sorry guys.
No DJI Phantom 5 launch at NAB 2019
In an email, Adam told DroneDJ the following:
“We’ve had a traditional booth at NAB and other large events for the last several years, but we’ve decided to refocus our promotion strategy. We’re evaluating the best ways to support the professional imaging market and our pro customers, so we’re considering alternative options. We’re going to explore other ways to reach this customer base and demonstrate our support for them.”
How exactly DJI will be targetting the professionals in the future, he did not say. However, we know that DJI launched the DJI Pro brand not too long ago, so they are clearly not leaving professional drone pilots in the cold.
For the people who were hoping that DJI was going to launch the new Phantom 5 at NAB 2019. Well, that is clearly not going to happen. Keep in mind though that for all recent drone launches, DJI has held dedicated events, so we were not expecting them to launch a Phantom 5 at NAB 2019.
Let us know what you think about DJI not having a booth at NAB 2019. Missed opportunity or not?
