DJI has released a new firmware update for the Zenmuse L2 aerial LiDAR payload. The update includes support for H.265 video encoding, extended IMU calibration interval, optimized Point Cloud LiveView display, reduced file size for point cloud recordings, and fixes for issues including an incorrect display of gimbal connectors and problems with RGB Coloring and task quality report retrieval.
Zenmuse L2 is built for DJI Matrice 300 RTK and the Matrice 350 RTK drone platforms utilizing an RC Plus remote controller. The 3D data collection tool can also be used with DJI Terra drone mapping software for high-accuracy post-processing.
The new L2 firmware, v02.00.0001, comes with a host of new features for increased efficiency and accuracy. Here are the complete release notes shared by DJI:
- Added support for H.265 as the default video encoding format. You can switch the default format in Camera Settings.
- The interval of IMU Calibration is extended to 200 seconds during a flight route task.
- Optimized Point Cloud LiveView display and reduced point cloud drifting when the aircraft is hovering.
- Optimized the storage format of point cloud files to reduce the point cloud recording file size in some scenarios.
- Fixed issue where when the gimbal connector was connected to the left USB-C port on the aircraft (when facing the aircraft), the app displayed that L2 was Payload 1.
- Fixed issue where when RGB Coloring was enabled and the recording mode was switched to point cloud, users could not stop taking photos and start a point cloud recording in the app after pressing the shutter button on the remote controller.
- Fixed the issue where the app showed that the task quality report file could not be found while the file existed on the microSD card.
Do note that the point cloud data captured by the L2 with updated firmware requires DJI Terra v4.0.0 or a later version to calculate. Also, your drone, RC, and flight app should be updated to the following firmware versions to utilize L2’s latest features:
- M350 RTK aircraft: v09.01.01.02
- M300 RTK aircraft: v59.01.00.01
- DJI RC Plus remote controller: v03.02.09.07
- DJI Pilot 2 app: v9.1.0.21
