US drone maker Skydio has announced its latest product, Dock for X10. The new docking station allows Skydio’s X10 drones to be stationed anywhere, anytime, enhancing their autonomy and scalability.
Skydio says Dock for X10 was born out of thousands of hours of engineering, with lessons learned from 400 deployments of Dock for X2 and S2+ over the past two years. The new drone docking station has been engineered to withstand the harshest of environmental conditions, with tests indicating endurance for winds up to 160 mph and easy operations in temperatures ranging from -4℉ to 122℉. Such durability is crucial for ensuring that drones remain functional in diverse scenarios, from routine inspections to emergency responses.
The docking system also features a visual fiducial system that enables precise landings for the AI-enabled X10 drone, which is vital for automated operations. Once landed, the drone is protected and charged, ready for its next mission.

Central to the functionality of the Dock for X10 is Skydio’s Remote Ops software. This platform allows operators to manage multiple drones from any remote location via a web browser. The system supports real-time data streaming, enabling stakeholders to monitor drone footage as it happens. For public safety agencies, this feature could enhance situational awareness during emergencies.
The software also includes a Mission Planner tool, allowing users to schedule flights and collect data systematically over time. This capability is essential for industries that require continuous monitoring and data collection.
Flight beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) is another critical part of autonomous work and Dock for X10 is purpose-built for it. Attached weather sensors, an ADS-B In receiver, and inputs for radar systems send the Remote Pilot in Command (RPIC) an accurate picture of both the airspace and conditions on the ground to satisfy many BVLOS requirements. Pre-flight checks are possible with cameras embedded in the Dock, allowing for remote vehicle inspection.
In addition, Skydio has made sure to address connectivity issues with various options, including Connect Access Points. These external modules extend the operational range of the drones, ensuring reliable communication even in challenging environments. They can be connected directly to a Dock, or deployed standalone with a direct internet connection to provide remote drone connectivity in places without cellular coverage.
The integration of 5G technology further enhances connectivity, enabling drones to operate in areas with limited cellular coverage. Besides, Skydio’s new docking station can utilize satellite internet constellation Starlink for more remote installations.
The company says it will begin shipping Dock for X10 in January 2025 for early customers.
